As hard as anyone might find this to comprehend, when you bid at eBay, you're not bidding against others. You're bidding against the clock. At a live floor auction sale, you're bidding not only against other bidders - but against the auctioneer as well.
Another auction site I use has a 2 minute reset. That is, say the listing ends at 10:00:00
The high bid is $27
If a bid of $28 comes in after 09:58:00, the end time is automatically bumped to 10:02:00
So the last second snipe bid just resets the clock.
I have watched some real bidding wars erupt, but at the same time, watched some items just slip under the radar, especially if several bidding wars are going on at the same time.

Gosh, I hate to to pay the going rate for the coins I collect. Mom always said I was special, so everyone should sell to me at MY price!
Wow, yikes, I can't believe someone would publicly denigrate bidders in an auction just because they beat one out on an item one wanted and they valued it higher than one apparently did. I thought that kind of name calling was not allowed here in these boards?
My only wish is that we would communicate and keep those lines open , instead of using verbiage that insults or demeans anyone. We can all "feel" one way or another, but nobody has to "fight" over the right to exchange fairly, anything.

I too am confused. What's the problem? Isn't this all good? Or are we looking at it from a buyers point of view that was hoping to get it cheap?
OP complaining that someone wanted to bid/pay more for the coin than the OP wanted to pay.

does the ebay clock re-set?
am not sure, but do not think so:
does the ebay clock re-set?
no
If two brothers can squeeze silver to $50, imagine what a world of stackers is about to do.

It appears they were more willing to pay the money than you

When I want a coin and there is active bidding, I simply set my snipe bid to the max I am willing to pay. Then you win some and you lose some.
