Both of them look like Retained Cud die-breaks,

    not full cuds......

Not familiar with all the die varieties on that series,

but two retained cuds like that would be scarce,

    I'd have to guess.

    .

    ok

in the middle of this modest research of mine it looks like 3 possible retaineds may exist for this rev.

    sequentially

    1. no breaks - prime state

    2. arrowheads - goes retained, possibly cud (incrementally)

    2a. es chip between 1 and 2.

    3. meric - goes nearly retained aka break(s)

    4. ates - goes retained, possibly cud (incrementally)

something is awry though as i see coins with (1)arrowheads and (3)ates but not (2)meric.

i have an images of (1)arrow only, making this first break.

    then (1)arrows and (2)meric with no (3)ates. confirming (1) and (2) sequence.

BUT i have an image of :

    (1)arrows and (3)ates with no (2)meric.

more research required. im sure there are books that cover this but i have them not.

Your coin is a JR-6, it has several die states, this is near the latest, but not the latest, as the latest state has three retained cuds.

The auction catalog for the Jules Reiver collection covers it too, and I imagine you've seen it.

6 of 9 reverse die states (including JR-5) are described. The photos in the online version are OK, too.

Just wondering, Reiver says the rev die was retired after this

marriage. Is there a later state than H ?
