Home Buy, Sell & Trade - Cards & Memorabilia

New here, and a question

Greetings all,

After a long time away from the hobby I am slowly coming back. What prompted me to join and post is a seeming out of nowhere email I received from a company wanting to buy one of my partial sets. They said they noticed I haven't updated it in a good amount of time, and was wanting to know if I was interested in selling.

I take everything with a grain of salt so I have been hesitant to go through with the deal. I guess hearing too many horror stories of buyers putting in claims through paypal and the seller being left out with no recourse.

The name of the company who contacted me is 'Where They Ain't, LLC'. They do have a website but being out of the loop for so long I have no idea how legit they are. Again, this isn't meant to demean or call them crooks, I am just looking out for my interests.

Thanks in advance!

They email probably everyone. They hope to catch that 1% who will sell.

They are legit but imho offer less than what cards are worth.

They then raise the price 5X and sell on ebay

Ridiculous company in my opinion, grossly overpriced. Run!

  • They email my every few months asking me if there's anything I need for my sets... but when I go to their website, they rarely have cards that i actually need. Even if they did, like others have said, they charge way more than anyone should ever pay for them. You would probably get better offers if you put the set up on this site.

Agreed. Really hoping PSA will improve this. At some point, collectors need to sell. Would be great to be able to do it (easily..) through PSA. Happy to give them the roughly 12 to 15% that goes to eBay, PayPal or auction houses.

PSA has Collectors Corner, only costs 5% to sell there.
  • I did know that. And 5% is very reasonable. Ease of use is another matter. The PSA website is far slower than eBay. I'm often running both in separate windows -- I open my PSA Set window and then go to eBay while I wait for the PSA site to load. Crazy.

And you also need to sell card by card. Very difficult (impossible?) to sell a lot or set of cards. It's just not set up that way. They have a long way to go in this area but I think it would provide a new source of revenue. I'm sure they're trying but they're up against a company with far bigger pockets.

I believe they are legit, but they are hopelessly overpriced.

I get the same emails from them. Expect a "Haven't heard from you..." follow up in a couple weeks. I just ignore them.

If you are ever looking to sell, you would likely do much better putting what you have on the BST board than with them.
  • Thanks all for the kind and prompt responses. I emailed them telling them I won't be going with them.

    Thanks again!
