Need Help - Foreign Currency

Because I collect currency instead of shiny round disks the local coin dealer thinks I'm an expert in all things currency related (I'm still a newbie on US currency and have zero knowledge on foreign currency). He has asked me to catalogue foreign currency he has accumulated over 25+ years, I have been able to find most of his notes in the World Currency books but I'm stumped on 30+/- notes. I need help identifying country of origin and catalogue numbers. If you know what these first few are I would really appreciate you sharing that information with me along with your thoughts on value(s). Thanks for your assistance.

The first is Bulgaria, 25 leva. Cheap packet material. Here's one on ebay for $2 + post, BIN. vQAAOSwv0tVXfOs">link

The second is notgeld from the city of Worms. Notgeld are not in Pick, you'd need a specialized cat for these. Ebay example: link2

3rd is notgeld from Gladbach. Common issue. link 4

4th is 1918 Ukraine issue. I'm not sure these were ever issued. Don't really know this issue. Example on ebay: link3

If you want to just send me scans Cord, I can take a shot at these over the next day or so. What you've shown are all common and back in "the day" you would find these in you pick 'em boxes for a buck or so. You can probably find Pick #s and optimistic retail pricing on ebay. Obviously condition really hurts these.

World is my specialty if you have any real humdingers. Happy to help.

Bottom is Ukraine for sure. Pick #22a. Serial prefix of A was issued. B (or ? in Cyrillic) was not issued and is much scarcer and more valuable.

Robert, you are correct - P.22a. I cannot type and that has been proven for decades.

Just a bit of side information on the Ukraine note, it is the Hryven issue which was issued by the Ukrainian People's Republic(there were two competing governments in Ukraine but this strangely was not the communist one). The UPR was fighting both Poland in the west and the communist government in the east. Eventually the UPR and Poland made their peace and fought the USSR government, but eventually the USSR prevailed and the UPR became part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.

Where this ties into current events is that the communist government they were fighting against in the east used the same flag that the Donets'k People's Republic is using now - the current government in Donets'k sees itself as a continuation of that earlier communist government in 1918.

  • I was able to finish the project today and give the notes back to the local coin dealer. He was very appreciative and the project (hopefully) will result in a sale or two to a forum member. It was an interesting project as I have a narrow collecting focus within US currency and therefore have not paid too much attention to foreign currency (even though I see lots of it posted in the forum). Some of the designs on foreign currency are amazing, I especially liked the German and Russian notes from around the turn of the century....I must stay away!!! I must not be tempted!!!!

Many thanks to each of you that helped me with this project, if I can help any of you in the future please contact me.
