Walker Proof Digital Album Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
1825 JQA Indain Peace medal. Third size. Silver (AR) . Extremely rare. Perhaps unique. While a census has not been completed, it is clear very few, if any, other examples exist. The Ford XVI example ( last known sale of one of these examples ) was a restrike. In his collecting of 50 years, he didn't own one. And he was a prolific buyer. This example is clearly not a restrike. Certainly worn with pride for many years upon presentation by the US.
HandH that's a great medal! Sometimes collectors shun pieces with that much use, (myself included). When a piece is that rare and historical, I think it should be overlooked.
I wish that piece could tell us where it has been.
Thanks Flatwoods. It really is a great piece. Many of the finest collectors of IPMs never owned this size. As I mentioned, Ford's was a restrike, LaRiviere didn't have this size, Schenkel didn't , Dreyfuss didn't. It's size was most likely presented to warriors, not Chiefs. Perhaps it came to a point where they were worth more to the tribe as a source or melt value than pride and importance of ownership since the US didn't quite honor their commitment after presenting the medals. Honor and allegiance in wearing IPMs meant a great deal to native North Americans , whether presented by the Spanish, the French, then the British and ultimately the US.
And thanks to brg5658 for cleaning up my photos and presenting them in a very nice format.
Also, check out the "Oddball Set" link in my sigline for some fun exonumia. It's a fairly new(-sh) pursuit for me, and certainly not high-dollar stuff, but I'm having fun with it so far.

My apologies to the forum. I'm not sure why my photos are being reproduced sideways. I'm working on it.
No worries HandH. Here, I made a composite image for you below.

That clearly was not the Simcoe medal, but the Fillmore second size, also scarce to rare. Here is the Simcoe medal. Thanks again brg5658.

Love the variety here! I looked at my photos and realized how few I have imaged. I really need to start taking more images!
