Is the appeal of auction selling fading for ordinary coins?

While the coins from "name" collections and truly nice coins still seem to do well at auction interest in ordinary "stuff" seems to be on the decline. Have the "phone book" auctions for coins had their day? Will the most successful auctions in the future be smaller and more selective?
