What card are you saving your money for?

What is that one card that you are saving your hardest for? I am really trying to save up for a 1955 Koufax RC PSA 7. Anything graded higher is way out my price range. As I am saving this money I am realizing that I have enough money to purchase some other key cards of other players from other years. It is so hard to keep my focus because I can see that I can add something else pretty decent to my collection. But then I will have to start all over again and I don't think I will ever get the Koufax if I do this. Have any of you ever has this problem and what did you do? I don't want to purchase a lesser grade either.

I'm currently saving for a 1951 bowman mickey mantle in a very low grade probably around a 1.

I don't save for a specific card, either I have cash available to purchase or I sell off other items I'm less interested in to complete the deal.

Step #1: Determine whether you would be happier with the Koufax 7 or several other key cards that interest you

    Step #2: Purchase accordingly

Personally, I would pick up the other cards you're interested in along the way if it's going to take a long time to save up for the Koufax. Then you can at least have them for a while and potentially profit on them when you have enough cash/cards to make the Koufax purchase.

Not card related, but I'm almost a year in on a three year plan to buy another Dodge Viper.

I did this a few times last year. I saved up for a 51 B Mantle PSA 4, 1961 Fleer Jerry West PSA 8, 1961 Fleer Oscar Robertson PSA 8 and a 1972 Dr. J PSA 9. Honestly, it was totally worth the patience as I couldn't be happier having those cards in the collection. I agree with Kyle that you may want to pick something up along the way. If I were to do that I may suggest picking up a lower dollar card of a player you collect but that won't be a big setback in your main goal. Good luck.

Well ... if you HAVE to have it in a"7" ... then save up ... buy it ... and then come back and show us your white whale. GOOD LUCK!
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

My next big purchase will hopefully be a clemente rookie in psa 5.5 or 6. With centering a priority

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

1980 Topps Nolan Ryan PSA 10...the nicest most centered copy I can possibly find. I've had this card on my radar for awhile, and will soon be in the market for one. Though I am actively collecting that set, Ryan's card in that set is one of my favorites. Very nice action shot, and that card has increased in price pretty well over the last couple years.
Always looking for OPC "tape intact" baseball wax boxes, and 1984 OPC baseball PSA 10's for my set. Please PM or email me if you have any available.

1990 Pro Set Lombardi Hologram PSA 10 is the one. It doesn't exist yet, so until it pops - I continue to save up.

The main cards I have been saving for are

    1972 Julius Erving

    1969 Lew Alcindor

    1971 Pete Maravich

    1966 Gale Sayers

    1962 Fran Tarkenton

    1965 Paul Garfield

    1966 Dick Butkus

It will be a long while before I get my hands on each of these but when I do then I told myself it will be time to save up for the card I want more than any...

  • I am in the exact situation you are in & my #1 card to have is also the 55' Koufax PSA 7. Many of the HOF rookies seem to go up so fast that sometimes I think I would be better off getting a loan. The interest is less than the difference of the sale price. In the past, I have purchased some cards from dealers that will accept a payment plan. You usually will have to pay a premium for the card but at least you will get it. Mike Denero will sell cards in this manner, but the main problem is that it is difficult to find really nice centered cards in his inventory in the last year or so.

Not really saving for it but if I do a big card in 2016, I'm shooting for a 1967 Topps Tom Seaver.

Heard dat. Been cuddly with my PSA 8 for many moons. So, how do you save for a rare sighting in what might be a PWCC auction? Maybe I'll see you there. image
