serial # question on 1928 numeral $10

Just got in a 1928 $10 FRN on Boston , serial number A09912610A. This above the high serial number and number of notes issued as listed in S&L. Have number guys got different data on these?

Just remember those numbers in S&L are observed serials numbers, not actual. So many times new highs and lows are reported.

S&L show 9,804.552 notes printed. Is this a guess or a BEP issued stat?

This is most likely a BEP stat.

However, you should remember that for a time both 1928 and 1928A series notes from Boston were on the presses at the same time and there is an over-lap in serials (meaning that there were COP/RCOPs created). So the high for series 1928 will be higher than the number of notes printed.

You should also note that the 1928 observed high is higher than the 1928A observed low.

I believe it to be an accepted BEP stat.

I just looked at a few reference books and it appears your serial is in the 1928A range.

Without a scan posted, it is just going to be a bunch of guessing for those who would try to help. Can you post a scan?

Yes, for a time, series 1928, 1928A, and 1928B FRNs were all on the presses at the same time.

This is an issue I have come across several times collecting the 28's....how can a note have a serial number higher than the total printed?.....it's actually fairly common due to the other posters reasons...overlapping printing runs. Here's an example I've showed off previously but certainly fits in here.See the earlier note(the 1928 plain)...it has the higher serial number and one would naturally assume it shouldn't...and that with the total printing listed as only 12,326,052-that's twenty million away.......I call these "anomaly notes".My notes are just 9 notes away from a COP (change over pair) that occurred.

Collector of numeral seals. That's the 1928 and 1928A series of FRNs with a number rather than a letter in the district seal. Owner/operator of Bottom Line Currency
