1989 pro set question

Has anybody tried to complete this set raw from opening boxes? I've opened 4 each of series 1 and 2 over the years and I'm still 60 cards short. My last series 1 yielded 4 new cards and my last two series 2 yielded 6 and 15 new cards. And I'm not talking about all the variations, just new card numbers.

I'm not really worried about completing it. I haven't even bothered looking for final series packs. I could just buy one if I wanted. I'm just curious to know if anyone else has had the same experience.

I remember the same thing happening to me in 1989. I didn't mind it though - made it more fun.

my experience is that collation of the 89 Pro Set is all over the place. I recall opening a box of Series 2 and pulling 5 Barry Sanders, one Aikman, no Deion Sanders, no Derrick Thomas. I was thrilled with the Barrys, but you would think there should have been a more even distribution.

The collation of 89 Pro Set was terrible. I can remember, when they had value, trying to put sets together and having 10 of one card and none of another after opening a few boxes. It got a little better with Series II, but not much

It's good to know I'm not alone. My previous 3 series 2 boxes were all about the same. 1-2 Barrys and Aikmans and 4-8 of Mandarich, Gizmo Williams and a bunch of guys I no longer remember. The box I opened last night was much different. 4 Barrys and almost none of the cards that I got 4-8 of in other boxes. I also got over half of my remaining cards I need for series 2.
