1874 "Die Trial"?

1874 "Die Trial" on Ebay

Ignore the starting price of $237.11 but somebody bought this for some amount. I have no idea how much but what is it? I was watching it and seems somebody made an offer and it was accepted. It had a few people watching it and sold quickly so I was not the only one curious as to what it was.

I recall no Patterns/Trials that look like this and did some research and still found nothing. There is no year on the coin so how did they even determine it was an 1874?

I have plans....sometimes

Nowhere does the seller say it's a die trial for a US coin. Maybe it's a die trial of a token of some kind?

And it may indeed be rare, but that alone doesn't make it valuable (as the seller's marketing suggests).

True. He still somehow knew it was 1874.
The token trial idea sounds right. Calling exonumia experts.

    Got me stumped.

Not a Die Trial and Not Silver... It's some sort of doohickey token which was struck on a nickel planchet.

Seller also has a Hard Times Token priced at $275 calling it a rare variety which it's not... So he's just pulling value figures out of thin air.
