How does one make separate paragraphs? The "Enter" key does not work with the new Forum set-up!

I am frustrated when responding to any threads since the new PSA forum was revamped. I used to always hit the "Enter" key twice, in order to create another paragraph. Since the PSA forum site was revamped, the Enter key accomplishes nothing, and my thread responses look as hard-to-read "blobs". I cannot continue this way.

Just what do I need to hit when I wish to create another paragraph???

Please, I'm a tech dinosaur. Be kind. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kind regards, Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)

The HR button is an option
    but it separates like this

In the 2016 HOF Class thread, DanBessette wrote three sentences with a line break after each one.

Maybe he can tell us how he did that?

    I'd love to know, too

I'm not sure why this is an issue. I just hit enter and start a new paragraph. Both work from my smart phone and from my desktop. If it helps, I use Firefox.

But if I use the QUICK REPLY

at the bottom of the screen

and hit enter once at the end of the line

    this is how it appears

I was wondering if this was a browser issue. I've not had any problems since the revamp. I double space my paragraphs (hit enter twice). Google Chrome here.

Holding control while hitting enter may do the trick; it likely depends on your browser input settings.

Actually, I meant to say I am using Google Chrome, also. Firefox was my previous browser.

    Put a
where you want the paragraph to start and where you want it to end.

Edit...well that did not work because the system thought I wanted a paragraph. Ugh

Let's try this .......put a <.p.> where you want the paragraph to start and end only take out the periods.

I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

We shouldn't have to know HTML code to write a proper post here.
  • mccardguy1mccardguy1 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭
I agree....but the following post of mine was very messed up until I had a fellow member here tell me how to "fix" it.

    https://forums.collectors.com/messageview.aspx?catid=11&threadid=928244&highlight_key=y

It took about a half hour but I finally got it fixed. A word of advice......if the object is to keep adding to an original post like the one I linked above, keep the post in a word doc with the HTML code in it. When you have new additions to the post do it in the Word doc and cut and paste it to the thread you are updating or you will lose all that coding you did previously.

It sucks but at least it makes the posts look better.

I use safari on iPhone and laptop and I never have an issue.
  • Doug has it. Use "Quick Reply", do not hit "reply" next to "quote", "top", and "bottom".

Reply next to "quote" etc. used to work in FireFox, but has stopped within the last few days. I'm VERY close to never posting again. C'mon PSA. Make your vendor fix their crap message board.

It's also not 4:19am here. I would be in bed.
  • I do believe that there are some differences between browsers.

But, I think Quick Reply is formatting properly for everyone.

The time is correct here, at least for me. You need to go to your profile and adjust the time zone so that it's right for you.

Time is wonky for me and my time zone is set correctly.

That's stupid. It might work but it's dumb. I've been using online forums for literally 20 years and this is the only forum where this has ever been an issue. And I'd be shocked if any other board using the same forum software is having this issue.

Thanks fellas for all your wonderful input. It appears I am not the only chap to be chagrined with this matter.

I hate reading long blobs; I feel certain you do as well.

I will endeavor to try some of your suggestions, which will require me to write them down. As I said, I'm a dinosaur and cannot hit "return" on any part of my anatomy to go back to age 21!

Thanks again, guys, and I truly wish you all a very positive 2016. ---Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)

I SHOULD HAVE 4 PARAGRAPHS IN THE ABOVE RESPONSE, AND THREE IN THIS ALL-CAPS EDIT. I HIT "REPLY" AND IT CAME OUT BLOBBY! AS DEAR OLD CAPTAIN BINGHAMPTON WOULD SNAP, "I COULD JUST SCREAM!"

SO, I WILL LOOK AT THE FIRST RESPONSE. I BELIEVE MY BROTHER MENTIONED AN "HR" BUTTON. I WILL VERIFY THE ALPHABET SOUP MONIKER, THOUGH I HONESTLY HAVEN'T A CLUE WHAT "HR" MEANS, NOR WHERE IT IS LOCATED ON MY COMPUTER KEYBOARD.

I KID YOU NOT WHEN I SAY I'M A DINOSAUR. AT LEAST, I'M A DINOSAUR WHO SINCERELY WANTS TO LEARN HOW TO JOIN IN ON THE PSA COMMUNITY FORUM DISCUSSIONS. MAYBE I CANNOT AFFORD THE VINTAGE CARDS YOUSE GUYS BUY, BUT I HAVE MEMORIES OF PULLING MICKEYS FROM WAX PACKS, ORDERING BOBBY HULLs AND BOBBY ORRs THROUGH THE MAIL ORDER FIRMS, AND GOING TO SHOWS FROM 1972-1980 THAT YOU MIGHT FIND A BIT INTERESTING AND INTRIGUING.

Brian, my verbose fellow, I enjoy your posts. I'll try to help.

"HR" is not on your keyboard, it is on the computer screen. When you click "reply" and a window pops up to type that reply, there are several icons in a row above the text box. From left to right, they are B, I, U, a square, http, https, ftp, mail, then hr. Try using that for paragraph breaks. FWIW, I believe it stands for "hard return." Good luck!
  • SOMSOM Posts: 1,555 ✭✭✭
OK, I will check your theory, Dan.
    I just clicked on 'hr.'
    Just did it again
This should give me line breaks
    Did it?
  • SOMSOM Posts: 1,555 ✭✭✭
Well, it gave me lines breaks, but also that annoying black line. Back to Square One.
  • skrezyna23skrezyna23 Posts: 908 ✭✭✭
"HR" stands for horizontal reference and is meant to be a line.

"BR" is line break. And yes, we shouldn't be having to use HTML on here.
  • IndianaJonesIndianaJones Posts: 346 ✭✭✭
I used the "Quick Reply" feature twice today. It separated the paragraphs beautifully. Viola!

Thanks again , all of you, for all the help, advice, and encouragement.

A special thanks to you, Dan Bessette, for your expressing joy over my posts. I sincerely try. Yes, to be sure, I suffer from verbosity; rather, I sometimes cause others to suffer from my verbosity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I well remember 1967. My White Sox and Cubs were both having great years. The Sox were in a four-way fight for the AL pennant at the beginning of September. As you already are well aware, the White Sox slunk to fourth, while the Red Sox fought their way to the top. The 67 Series was a humdinger, and though it did not end the way you wanted, Dan, NBC made sure to focus plenty of attention to King Carl!!!!!! I was absolutely shocked at how he suddenly became such a power hitter that year, to go with his high batting average. He became YAZ that year, if I remember correctly. NBC gave him some great camera coverage, and suberb lead announcer Curt Gowdy, himself a former Red Sox broadcaster, did a fabulous job calling the game. I think Pee Wee Reese was still his color analyst. From that year on, YAZ was one of the elite players in MLB. I still fondly remember him in his MAYPO commercial get-up! Funny as all get-out in his infant costume, whining, "I want my MAYPO. --pause-- I want it."

As long as I'm going to be verbose, Dan, I wanted to do one expressly for you, my friend.

Thanks again, youse guys! ---Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)
