Some of you are having better luck with early purchases than I. My first real purchase was yesterday at a show, but sold it immediately to a dealer friend. So I guess mine will be at FUN.

    Nice purchases guys! image

Here is mine: Not in the best grade, but not something that can be found every day. 200$. Usually they go for 800-1000.

    Looking for:

    1. Any The Zanzibar Government note in any condition.
  • That Guadeloupe note is very nice. as well as a fantastic buy. Search eBay for Guadeloupe p-16 for a note that does not come close to that condition for $925. French early - mid twentieth century notes are very beautiful. Some of them the women are even wearing clothes.

Yes, there is a nasty tear... I know this guy, he has some good notes, but his prices... Well, some of them are not realistic.

  • Alex, tear or no tear it's a nice note to have in one's collection. If you're so inclined I'm sure it can be expertly repaired; might check with your state archives folks.

  • No, the tear is not on my note, it's on the 925$ note. Mine has only folds and some minor defects.
I checked the prices of repairing, and it's really high. I think it worth only for high value notes.

The picture makes it look like there could be a tear in the shadows on the left. I had to look at it for a bit myself...

Really beautiful design and colors on that note, even with the heavy use!

I like the French printed notes. They remind me of pastel/chalk drawings. I believe they are all of French origin and over the many years they have that soft pastel style.

The first one was a nice VF @ $26 of this French "nouveaux francs" denomination, dated one day before I was born. The previous edition with the old denomination of 500 frncs, with red overprint 5 NF (nouveaux francs), costs... ~$1000 in choice unc. Even after the monetary reform, French citizens kept on calculating sums in old francs, for at least a decade or more, (as heard in their B/W movies of that time) especially when they needed to use a slang word such as "brique" = brick = 1 million old francs = 10 thousand new francs. image

Then, I have 2/2 so far and heading for another 4 in a couple of days. Fingeers crossed.
The first specimen is rare too, let alone the note itself, IMPOSSIBLE in UNC.

Very nice notes from everyone to start the year.
I too am partial to the beautiful French and French colonial notes; so much nicer and with much more character than the boring bureaucratic euro currency.
@ Syracusian: Like your elegant Greek specimens. What is the meaning of the bright red NEON on the 50 Drachmai note?
