1928B $5 DGS

What's the difference between Fr 1952a and just Fr 1952 ?

The only one I found on HA was listed as Fr 1952a is erroneously labeled

They are both within the SL range for DGS, where there are no Philly LGS values or numbers listed. There are no mules, so I am not sure what the "a" suffix is for. LGS and DGS share the same FR # as far as I can tell.

DGS notes are Fr. 1952a and LGS notes are simply Fr. 1952. Friedberg didn't recognize lots of small size varieties (e.g., mules). Now grading companies use extra notations to distinguish these.

The note without the "a" was graded before PCGS started using this notation.

    Both notes are indeed DGS.

All twelve districts printed LGS 1928B (C, and D) $5's, but only Atlanta, St Louis, and San Francisco released them into circulation.

Some 1928B D* LGS notes somehow managed to make their way into circulation, so I suspect that a tiny amount of DA LGS notes made their way into circulation, but did not survive.
