Japanese Baseball Card Help

Got these 3 Ina a box at an auction. I am clueless. Love to know year, rarity, and approximate value if anyone knows. They are in pretty good shape and I think they're cool no matter what. Thanks in advance for your image[/URL]

    Kyle,

The first two cards from left are from JCM13c-1963 Marusho Flag Back. The first from left is of Shigeo Nagashima (Japanese HOF, many consider the greatest Japanese player ever) and is valued at $80.00 in Gary Engel's 7th Edition Japanese Baseball Card Guide.

The second from left is of Takeshi Kuwata of the Taiyo Whales. This card is valued at $8.00.

The third from left is from JCM11-1964 Marusan Simple, Navy Blue Back, Photo Menko and is of Toshiaki Tokuhisa, ROY for the Kinetetsu Buffaloes. The card is valued at $8.00.

    Hope that helps!

    Best,

    Josh

It's interesting to note that these cards were from the batches of cards imported in the 1960s. Hence the stamped numbers on the back of each card. Good finds.
  • Wow! Thank you for the fantastic review and information. The box they were in had many oddball items like Kellogg's, Hostess panels, Topps Supers, etc. Yes the stamps on the back is interesting as they seem random and done after the fact. Well thank you again. I was thinking they were probably early to mid 70's since most items in the box were but great to know and especially to find out one of them is a HOF.

No worries. The Nagashima menko is definitely the hit there. The stamps were actually put on by the gentlemen who imported the sets to ease with checklisting since the "Fighting Numbers" at the bottom weren't unique to any particular card....numerous cards had the same Fighting Number. Congrats again.
  • You might want to run it by the guy who runs the Japanese Baseball Card blog, which is a cool site to check out.
