A Diary of Year 2015 Purchases

First of all, I would like to thank Tookybandit for walking me through the new process of posting pictures under the new software format - it took quite a bit of coaching the "old guy" but, with his help, I finally made it. So, here we go with 2015's acquisitions. Also, I'm still playing with the scanner - the notes don't have bad margins, that's just the way the pictures came out on the first try.
It was a different year as no purchases were made in any of the major auctions as very little reached out and "grabbed me." But, that's the way it goes some years so, this year, virtually all the purchases were via private treaty.
It started at last year's FUN show as a Forum member offered me this cool note that I showed in a thread earlier this year.
The next purchase happened in March, again by private treaty with another Forum member which was obviously the highlight of the year.
This is one of only four Serial Number 1 Red Seals known on the State of South Carolina with the other three all coming from a $5 sheet from Anderson, SC making this $10 rather unique. It was a smooth transaction - I hate haggling which is why I don't deal with Arabian Rug Merchants from Virginia - I was quoted a price that I could live with and the deal was done.
The following few months were a bit quiet as I worked to restock the checkbook. I was ready by the Memphis show but couldn't buy anything as I was hit with a litany of excuses as to why certain dealers wouldn't sell me anything. It's amazing to have money in your pocket but "dealers" won't give me a price. Oh well.
The next purchase was a big surprise - I have to admit I actually bought a note on eBay!!! First one in about five years!! It's a hometown note and, even though I have much better ones on the bank, I couldn't resist the serial number.
Then, this fall, I made another major private purchase. A long time collector decided to start selling off his holdings and I was fortunate to get first shot. Again, no haggling, just give me your best price and it's yes or no. As an aside, hey, I have no problem paying "moon" money for cool stuff, just don't quote me "cosmic galactic" prices. The deal involved over a dozen good notes. For the sake of brevity, I'll just show two of them and save more for another time
The collector had owned the note for 39 years since he bought it out of a William Donlon sale in 1977 - this is the scarce Cooperstown bank and it's the only #1 note known on this charter. And speaking of #1's, here's another one that the collector acquired from a 1992 Stacks sale.
That's enough for now - as you can see, it's been a busy year. Now, we'll see what happens at the FUN show - both at the auction and on the floor.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Regarding the Greenville note, it was held by the family of the bank's cashier for around an even 100 years and was sold by a descendant of that cashier to the Forum member from whom I acquired the note. The note was pen signed by the cashier but the president's signature was rubber stamped. When you hold the note in hand, you can make out faint traces of the stamped signature but most of it has faded away over the past decades. Since it was kept as a souvenir by the cashier, I would presume that's why it was not pen signed by the president.
Now, to show the opposite of number 1 notes, here's a couple of "last notes" that came from the same deal.
While the Hobart note doesn't represent a rare bank, this is the last $10 that the bank issued as the Kelly reference reports 4,752 Type Two $10s issued. It's another note that has been off the market since its last appearance in a 1992 Stacks sale.
The Margaretville note is not only from a scarce bank but since it issued 188 sheets of Type One $20s, it makes this piece the top note from the last sheet of Type One $20s.
More to follow....
