1824/1 Bust Half Overton 102?

This is a new purchase and it looks like an Overton 102 with the look of the stars, but I am not certain as this is not my series. I liked the look of the coin even with the soft strike and did not yet have this error so I picked it up. Any help and opinions are welcomed and appreciated, Thank you for your time.

    no.

    Not O-102

The Position of Star 7 + the T-I relationship is not correct.

    Probably O-105

Reverse: First S too close to T.

Error? I think what you are seeing above the 4 in the date is post mint damage and not the remnants of an overdate. I agree that the die marriage appears to be O-105. It's definitely not any of the known overdates for 1824. Sorry ... finding an O-102 would be quite an event as it is an elusive R-5+ die marriage.

Here is an image of the tough O-102

I have circled the main PUP on the reverse to ID this variety.

    Agreed. It is an O.105.

    JRocco, is that yours? Nice!

    Hey Lance.

Yes it is. I got lucky in that it is a really clean example of the variety.

  • Hey thanks guys and JRocco that is a nice clean example. I really appreciate the info on this as I said not my series but something made me go after this particular coin. I need to get a visual reference to the Overton numbers, any suggestions? If anyone has reference materials for sale let me know.

Careful! We all have a story about how we got hooked, and this could be yours.

I have always admired this series but they are looking better and better every day. I am also really enjoying the "errors" with all the over dates etc... Dangerous these are...

Have you seen the Aug 2016 image on the new PCGS calendar? Thank you PCGS for the calendar but now you have furthered my need for these coins and that makes the wife unhappy as she does not collect but keeps getting them as gifts.
