Goodwin & Co Pulls PSA 8 1952 Mantle From Auction

I just read this on the Net54 forum. Goodwin has pulled the PSA 8 1952 Topps Mantle from their current auction because of authenticity concerns. They say that they are working with PSA to determine if it is real. The card is in a new PSA slab with the hologram. If the card turns out to be a fake I hope they find out who created it and they end up in jail.

  • The cert fails. Wouldn't that be the easiest part of making a fake? Dig one out from VCP. That's why I don't understand people who blur or cover their cert numbers.

    Cert

Not a real cert according to the cert check.

Makes you wonder if any of these auction houses do any verification. For a near $500K card, checking the cert would be the least you can do.

I've had cards come back from PSA and the certs came back as unknown when punched into the verification finder on their site. It happens, and may very well be the case here. In these instances, I've had to send them the card and they log the cert in.

Interesting that it's in a new flip. Hopefully it's a PSA error, if not then there's a big problem.

Didn't take very long for someone to figure out how to make fake cards in new PSA slabs lol.

Does anyone have a picture of this card? Its doubtful the slab is a fake. Did PSA make a mistake and slab a reprint?

That is in a real slab with a real flip, so IF it turns out to be fake, the PSA guarantee should kick in.

Looks like an old cert that was reholded. Judging by the cert #500
Could someone have made a good fake with the old case and then sent it in to be reholdered?
    That is my thought.
Also the cert now not showing up could also be because PSA is reviewing the card? I have had my certs taken away if you check them when PSA is reviewing my cards for a bump. Might be whats happening now? Not sure though.

The cert not showing because of being under review makes since as they come out of the pop report.

Top part of the slab looks a little odd around the label. Looks different than others. Could be the scan?

Calling on all the 52 topps experts, is it real or fake?

Why not just let it run unless they get confirmation from PSA that it's bad?

I'm guessing since it's out of their possession for an unknown duration due to legitimacy concerns, it's in their best interest to pull the auction. It's the ethical thing to do and bidding would definitely be suppressed since there had to be discussion going on elsewhere prior to it being pulled. Who would bid on a card of questionable authenticity?

When you submit a card from an old slab for a review/reholder, does PSA normally change the cert number?

Was the back not pictured in the auction? If not, that is where I'd look first for a clue on authenticity.
