Dan's Venezuelan Adventure

Exciting mail day for me. Last week I came across a lot of 1968 Venezuelan Topps on eBay, that included a league leaders card w/ Yaz, cards of a couple of other HOFers and several Red Sox. The cards are in really rough shape, but I set a snipe, and won them for significantly less. 31 cards for $51 delivered! I know they're beaters, but when have you ever heard of Venezuelans for less than 2 bucks apiece?
Out of the 31, I'm keeping 16 and I plan to sell or trade the other 15. Below are scans of the 16 I'm keeping. 15 of them will eventually be subbed to PSA (all but the Petrocelli). Enjoy!
Yaz's face is a little rough, but having this copy is better than having no copy at all, right?? Plus can't beat the price.
Speaking of Yaz, these 2 all star cards count for my Yaz collection. The backs are 2 pieces of a 10 piece Yaz puzzle. Below is a photo of my completed puzzle from the American 68 Topps set. Venezuelan puzzle is the same when complete.
OK, back to my very legal immigrants:
^ 2 HOFers ^ About half the cards have some degree of paper loss on back. The Stargell has the worst back of the bunch.
Thanks for looking. Venezuelans are tough enough that, beaters or not, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Great looking cards. You mentioned you are keeping some and trading or selling others, what type of collection are you working on for this set? It's always nice to snag a deal!
Good question Steve. I really don't know. I plan to grade the players I showed and I'll probably register them. However I don't plan to try to complete the set. I'll prob just pick up 1 or 2 here or there if the player appeals to me. We'll see.

Out of the lot of 31, I pulled out 16 I wanted to keep. After giving one to each son and one to a board member, that left 12 to sell or trade. A guy approached me on Net54 and I traded 8 of those to him for his set, in exchange for 7 I'd rather have.
Those 7 cards arrived yesterday, almost as exciting as when the last lot arrived. Here are some scans.
The Hart made me think of graygator and his dad. That one is beautiful, with a perfectly clean back. White was a very underrated player, overshadowed by teammates Brock and Flood. Playing in a pitching-heavy era, he had seven 20 HR seasons and finished his career with a .286 avg, 200+ HRs and 100+ SBs. Voted into 5 all star games, won 7 consecutive gold gloves.
A month ago I owned one Venie (which I get back from PSA tomorrow). But after buying the big lot, pulling out the ones I wanted to keep, trading for others, and Manny sending me a GORGEOUS Yaz Venie for Christmas, here is my current Venezuelan tally in the PC:
1964: 4 cards
1966: 1 card (Yaz)
1968: 20 cards (2 Yaz)

nice trade; Bill White's daughter was the scorekeeper for the American Legion team I played on!

Sweet! Were you able to meet him?

1964
1968
The first 2 cards were mech errors. They got each other's label. I'll be sending them right back.
Obviously the above is a great addition to my Yaz master set.
ERA Leaders = Pop 1, 2 higher
Veale is pop 1, only 1 higher
Hart is pop 1, only 2 higher. Monster grade! I love it.
Amaro is pop 1, none higher
Torrez is the only copy ever graded by PSA
Rollins is pop 1, only 2 higher
Cleon is the only copy ever graded
McCarver is only copy ever graded. That surprises me.
Fregosi is pop 1, only 2 higher
Alley is pop 1, only 1 higher
Well I currently own 16 slabbed 68 Venz cards and since 15 of them are already shown above, I may as well show the other, to consolidate my registry in one thread. Got this one from Manny for Christmas, subbed myself in Jan.
