What Will This Grade? Gorgeous Card w/ One Flaw. Help Please

See the below pics. I popped this out of the sealed topps case to submit, was targeting a psa 10. Card is flawless...except...the back top above the word "the" there is a small brown/tan spot. I though this was from my scanner, but alas, it is on the card. I gently tried to use my thumb nail to rub it off...no change. I am curious to know if this will kill the grade or force a qualifier? Does anyone have a recommendation to remove such a spot? It does not appear to be "baked" into the card. I once read on these forums someone use panty hose to rub out wax stains on the backs of 1986-87 Fleer Basketball card stickers. Not sure if that would do the trick. Any advice or grade predictions would be helpful. Thank you. Meatloaf

Side Note: Would I have a more favorable shot with BGS for a 9.5 here with the spot?

  • The xfractor line on the front would kill the surface grade. No chance at a 9.5 on that unfortunately. Nice card but it would have sold better in the uncirculated case.
  • Don't use panty hose on a chrome card (back included) if you have to wipe one use a micro-fiber cloth.

BGS will drop the surface to an 8 at best, making your card at best a 9. I had a Lebron James Chrome Refractor Rookie which had a surface issue on the reverse about the same size as your brown spot and it dropped the surface grade to a 7 if I recall. The rest of the card seemed gem mint, but only managed an overall 7.5

    ll 7.5
