Rose appeal denied

Rule 21 Misconduct,

(d) Betting on Ball Games, Any player, umpire, or club, or league official, or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform, shall be declared permanently ineligible.

Your incredible arrogance brought this lifetime ban. You agreed, (voluntarily), on August 24, 1989, to be permanently placed on baseball's ineligible list.

You deserve what you got. I suspect at the age of 74, you will not live long enough to realize any positive outcome to your self-inflicted stupidity.

Had he shown at least some contrition as well as some signs that he had become a better human being he would have had a legitimate shot at reinstatement. But, once again, he's his own worst enemy. It's a real shame. I've always been a Rose supporter and still think he deserves the Hall based on what he did on the field... perhaps with an asterisk and explanation of what he did off the field... but unfortunately it will likely be posthumous when it happens.

This sums it up accurately for me. I was a Rose fan and think he should be forgiven BUT he should not be allowed in the HOF.................ever.

Didn't the Hall make the change to disallow permanently ineligible players after Pete accepted the lifetime ban? Not working in baseball, fine, but the guy is a HOFer regardless. Shoeless Joe should be in as well.

As a Christian nation we are supposed to forgive. Let him in. There are many people already in the hall that have done worse.

Pete admitted to Manfredi that he continues to bet on baseball to this day and yet expected to be reinstated?? Lol..

I believe in forgiveness for Pete, but also for consequences because of his actions. Actually since betting on Baseball is baseball's biggest no-no, there are no players who have done "worse" in the hall.

Totally disagree. PED's did far worse damage than any gambling Rose did.

What players in the hall did PED's?

The prosecution has rested it's case (many times over). I really believe it is over for him in regard to the HOF.

Sorry there's no disagreeing here. Baseball's number one offense is gambling, stemming from the 1919 WS. PEDs may be a bigger problem in your mind, but not MLB's. Conspiring to fix a WS is about as bad as it gets imo.

Nonsense. Rose did nothing to hurt the game. If he got reinstated, he would get in before the PED guys. Everyone knows that.

I guess I missed the part where Pete ever threw a WS game.

It's obvious by now that the guy has a gambling problem. So, where are all the bleeding hearts that have given myriad substance abusers multiple chances? It's been 30 years, people.

And yes, he's an arrogant jerk of the highest caliber and his own worst enemy. But can you say Ty Cobb? Gimme a break.

Uphold the lifetime ban from the game, but at least give him the Hall before he passes, even if it has to be with an asterisk and an explanation on the plaque.

The Rose apologists just don't get it. Irrelevant analogies with other personality flawed players doesn't help their case, either. The case is actually pretty cut and dried at this point and Pete chose his own fate. Let's face it, too, lest anyone fool themselves~the guy continues to profit on his notoriety and is more prominent now than he'd ever have been had he never been banned from baseball.

The substance abusers only get chances if they are willing to admit to their problem and seek help. Pete has never admitted he has a problem and obviously is not going to ask for help.

Please stop bringing up Ty Cobb, his attitudes were much the same as most of the population of his era.

You say "forgive Pete it's been 30 years", well why don't you forgive Ty, it's been about 80 years!

perhaps better examples would be Daryll Strawberry and Steve Howe, among others.

let's face it, the rift between Pete Rose and MLB is past his gambling problem and stems from his fight with Fay Vincent who had headed the investigation, only to be rewarded with the job of Commissioner. Rose may have an attitude problem and an addiction but in all reality that shouldn't preclude one of the best all-time players from entering the HOF with his contemporaries. All the self-righteous chest thumping and indignation over his gambling is a little over the top. After all, this isn't a Hall which enshrines choir boys or a League which enforces rules evenly, they choose where to go and when to be strict.

One of the most pathetic pleas made about the whole Pete Rose argument is "for the integrity of the Game" which gets mentioned every so often. Most major professional sports don't have much integrity, it doesn't go well with the bottom line of the owners who typically elect their stooge and then use him to do their bidding. After all this time I would challenge anyone to tell me what keeping Charlie Hustle out of the HOF, where he will be after his death, accomplishes?? Don't use the above phrase and explain to me how it is anything more than a personal vendetta which will continue.

Merry Christmas, save the hate for another time of year.

    Merry Christmas keets!

I really don't see it that way at all, even though there is much truth in what you are saying.

After the "black sox" scandal MLB made the decision that gambling on baseball was the number one "crime" you could commit. Joe Jackson and seven others were found not guilty in a trial but Commissioner Landis said; "Regardless of the verdict of juries, no player who throws a ballgame, no player that undertakes or promises to throw a ballgame, no player that sits in conference with a bunch of crooked players and gamblers where the ways and means of throwing a game are discussed and does not promptly tell his club about it, will ever play professional baseball."

After that, the line had been drawn, and Pete crossed that line. I certainly don't "hate" Pete Rose, but he's simply not going to get in. He actually agreed to his banishment in order to stop the investigation of his actions.

In regards to Joe Jackson who has the 3rd highest lifetime BA in the history of the game; "Joe shouldn't have accepted the money...and he realized his error. He tried to give the money back. He tried to tell Comiskey...about the fix. But they wouldn't listen. Comiskey covered it up as much as Jackson did--maybe more. And there's Charles Albert Comiskey down the aisle from me at Cooperstown--and Shoeless Joe still waits outside."

Joe Jackson should get in the HOF but he won't either.

Sorry to Pete and his fans, it's not going to happen now or after his death.

No hating here, sadness over the situation, but no hate!
