How does a low serial number affect the price of a note?

I recently acquired a fr 249 $2 1899 series in 64 net for ink bleeding in the paper, cert by pmg. The serial number is a 4 digit number. How should this affect the grade. I saw on heritage notes in vf and xf going for $900. Thoughts?

Generally, a lower serial number adds some value.Just how much added value depends on just how low it really is (as compared to what's known for the series)as well as several other parameters.Additionally, eye appeal counts for much and so a pic of the note in question would be helpful in putting a number on it.It is possible that the aforementioned bleeding ink could negate any added value.

  • It should not affect the grade. Grade is affected by the paper quality.
Low number can add some value, but it depends on the note itself.
