Coins take money and so do kiddos and families. Nothing left over for coins I'm afraid.

That's it. Coin markets generally rise and fall with the economy. You should have been around from 1990-1996 (or worse yet 1981-1982) when things were probably more dead than they are now.

1982 was the absolute bottom. I recall attending a Michigan State Numismatic Society fall show and not being able to buy, sell, or trade. So far as today is concerned, young people just don't have an interest in old line hobbies like coin collecting. As the older collectors pass from the scene there is no one there to replace them. Unfortunately, I don't see this changing. They now graduate from college with a mountain of debt and find out that the job they had expected to get is now outsourced overseas. There is no money for hobbies like coins in a situation like that.

    All glory is fleeting.

This is not the feeling I get. While it's natural to prefer PCGS plastic due to our host, a number of coins that get posted here are in other plastic, crossed or not. There are also threads on crossing at grade. There are threads on toned circ dimes, Hungarian denarius, Wiener medals, coin club medals and I even posted a thread on a raw rim-dinged piece that people liked a while back.

As someone that doesnt prefer PCGS over NGC or even NGC over ANACs, I can tell you that kool-aid drinking that does go on here is a bit off-putting to even a seasoned collector, which I consider myself. I cannot imagine how a newb would take it.

And its not natural, its based on imposed rules by our hosts.

No but you may quit posting on a Lamborghini message board when you're driving a Rambler.

It's amazing that nearly everyone has a keyboard in front of them every single day at some point, yet nearly nobody knows how to properly type.

Let me know if this post hurts anyone's feelings so I can post it several more times.

Kids don't need to know how to type, they just use siri.

I tried using siri, but can't use her as she just pisses me off .....

Could it possibly be that coins are simply not as hot as they were 6-7 years ago?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

it's because we objectify women and we have pictures of women with coins! A good way to kill the hobby.

Personally, I hope less and less "YNs" join the hobby. This way, prices of rare coins will fall, and I will be able to add more to my collection.

I have been on travel and did not comment on the Poll, but my unproven reasons are:

I have been a member since 2002, and I still do not feel welcomed, respected or "worthy" on this board. A few folks grab the lime light and are quick to shoot down opinions from others unless your in their niche. I find myself very seldom posting due to this attitude. It was not too long ago folks had to be encouraged to be nice to new members - now that says it all.

The excellent and most educated hobbyist that contributed greatly to the benefit of others have been banned.

There are simply a bunch more forums than there ever use to be. Many specialize in series where more interest can be found.
