Team signed baseball Roberto Clemente ,etc

I'm not familiar with this item at all. I've checked google, e bay and a couple other websites and cannot find this exact Ball. Any thoughts on value, how to get it authenticated/graded is appreciated .

  • Authenticated I'd estimate $700 to $1100 depending on the rest of ball. (The year) If Clemente was sweet spot and clean it'd be closer to $1700-$2000. The only pause I have with Clemente signatures is that clubhouse and personal assistant was so adept at mimicking his signature I in my limited experience can't tell the difference. The two most reputable conglomerate authenticators are JSA and PSA/DNA. I'd guess it would be around $125-$150 to submit it. If you're looking to move it without the hassle of authenticating look up Jim Stinson or Richard Simon.

I am far from an expert on ANY autograph, but I don't like that Clemente either.

Clemente is a clubhouse - save your money on the authentication fee
  • Thank you everyone. The person who owned this ball was at the game that day with his parents and it was his birthday and he actually caught this ball . He asked the players to sign it for him and they did, considering it was his birthday.

Unfortunately he passed away a couple months ago... he was in his 60's ,

but he has had it since then . Are there any other signatures that I should look for on the ball that would be of interest ?

It's very common for stories to be somewhat embellished over time....If your friend actually handed this ball to the players personally to sign, he wouldn't have gotten a secretarial/clubhouse signature of Clemente....It's more likely that someone associated with the Pirates knew it was his birthday and retrieved a signed ball from the locker room as a gift.....With 90% of the value tied to Clemente, there really is no sense in getting in authenticated for the others IMO....Is your intention to sell the ball or keep it?

If you want to show the other panels, perhaps we can identify other clubhouse signatures..

I think i'm going to keep it for awhile. I've been trying to find a photo of a similar ball, and haven't had any luck. I'll post it in the other panels and see if anyone has one similar.

here is an example of a PSA/DNA authenticated 1957 Pirates team signed ball with a genuine Clemente and a clubhouse Danny Murtaugh (which is also very common) that sold through for over $500

  • Thank you for the link. That Clemente signature looks different form the one I have. I just sent Mark Jordan several pictures from Heritage auction . I'm waiting to hear back from him. Maybe the one I have is a sleeper .

The presence of the Gino Cimoli signature on the ball would narrow the year down to 1960 or 1961. Obviously, a 1960 Pirates team signed ball would be noteworthy. No clue on whether the Clemente is clubhouse or legit.

  • Mark Jordan thinks the Clemente is a clubhouse signature . He also stated that there might be other signatures on the ball that might be noteworthy . Without seeing the ball in hand it's difficult to determine. Thanks to everyone for their help. I'll do some research on the other signatures . Are there any other signatures that might be of interest that anyone knows of ?
