$500 to spend and want something nice unopened...suggestions?

Baseball or Basketball. I don't know all that much about cards (coin guy, I admit) but want to put something away in the back of the safe to forget about. Any suggestions?

  • Get 3 other guys with $500 each and buy a 1955 cello pack (i think he paid 2k for it). Sorry but thats what came to mind, considering whats been going on over in that thread. If you havent read, he opened a 1955 cello pack with 20 cards and nailed 3 awesome cards. 2 Mays and 1 Clemente rookie. Definitely not the norm though.

I don't know but is a 1986 graded fleer pack in a lower condition even possible for 500? MJ since you said buy and hold. I have packs on the mind. Since you're a coin guy, make sure anything unopened is BBCE authenticated and wrapped. As far as baseball, Id go vintage. I don't know much about modern but seems risky as a hold.

I'm actually in the same boat, but I just could not pull the trigger with either the BBCE or Dave and Adam's Black Friday sales.

Things just seem way farther out of my price range this year than in years past, and not nearly as much to choose from. Maybe there's something to this "the last one to sit down being the biggest loser" thing. . .

1986 fleer is higher than $500, but I'd recommend getting 4 PSA 8 1980 topps basketball packs. It's the bird/magic rookie year and I see it continuing to do well.
