1989 UD Griffeys taking off?

Looks like the psa 9 and 10's are starting to take off... What is the ceiling?

I don't think the ceiling is very high on the UD. The POP on this card is 2525. Doubt the demand outweighs the supply. I think the '89 Bowman Tiffany (POP 116) is going to be the one that takes off followed by the '89 Fleer Glossy (POP 67). His '88 Best Platinum San Bernardino Spirit (POP 12) already took off a while back.

That is crazy the pop is up to 67 on the Fleer Glossy. I hit #34 and that was just a few years ago. Impressive the card has moved up since then with such an expansion in the pop report.



I have an Upper Deck at PSA now.



The shear number of those that exist creates too many close substitutes for the card to have a huge run although I see PSA 10's have moved up from the $300 level so better then a sharp stick in the eye.

I have heard stories of the uppers at upper deck printing Griffey Jr. Rookies as bonuses. I could never confirm this was true but the amount of 1989 upper deck product still unopened makes you wonder how far up that card can really go.

Good luck with your 89 UD. I sent in the best 11 out of 20 that I pulled from my 8 box break. I got absolutely hammered:



(6) PSA 5

(2) PSA 6

(3) PSA 9



I have no idea what I missed. Centering was no worse than 55/45 top to bottom. No visible marks on the cards. Corners were all pack fresh.

I have no clue what mine will grade. It has great centering and will be for my collection.

Griffeys (and the rest of 89 UD) are notorious for having small surface wrinkles on the back. I sent in one, thought it was a sure 9 or 10 and it got a 6. When I got it back, small 4mm surface wrinkle on the back

they don't ding this card for the hologram - i've seen numerous 10s with chips off the hologram



i think the 89 fleer glossy is a much better choice than the bowman, the fleer is a sharp card



i don't think the 89 bowman is a good choice, those cards were never really popular so despite the rarity in 10, it's just not a card people like



it's also why the UD does so well despite the high pop - it's just a cl*****ic card that everyone recognizes

I submitted a "pack fresh (lol)" one last year but got hammered with a 5.

In the book card sharks they talk about printing full sheets of just the griffey if that gives you an idea about the amount of these out there. I think the minor league cards and Bowman tiffany are the way to go

Did they ever confirm that rumor? Or is there even any real evidence to support it? Anyway I'm guessing this increase in value is no doubt his upcoming 2016 HOF induction (boy do I feel old...).

None of them were bad enough to designate a PSA 5. Seriously I think a few of them were less than perfect, but how is it that a hologram on the back can effect a card that much? My thought is that PSA is extra hard on this card because it is the most graded card of all time.

Best one to get is the 1989 Topps Heads Up Test Griffey RC. Three PSA 4's, 1 PSA 6, and 2 PSA 8's.
