Renaissance Hammered Medallion

I'm figuring you guys here that like hammered coinage might appreciate this.

I took my wife and daughter to the Texas Renaissance Festival today and had a pretty good time. The highlight for me was hammering out this copper medallion:

The good folks from the Quick Silver Mint have a nice "Drop Hammer" coining press,

but I chose instead the ultra low tech method and swung a 5 lb hammer myself at this set up:

Thought I got a pretty good strike!

Neat. But they should do away with the collar so you get that true "not quite round" hammered coin appearance. image

Edit- if there was a collar of some kind, that is?
