Granite State Baseball Dinner 2016

Hi guys, I posted about this charity dinner and autograph dinner last year. We went again last night, for the 4th consecutive year, and I thought I'd post a recap. There were 17 baseball players there, 2 Paralympians, and an actor from Field of Dreams. Oh, and Bob Backlund. Below are scans of the 12 cards I got signed for myself, plus notes.

These are the 2 cards I got last night that are destined for PSA red flips. The Fielder is his RC and a PSA 9 crackout. The Carpenter will be my 4th red flip auto of his. He's a NH native and co-organizer of the event, so he's always there, and thus collecting his signed cards has sort of become a back burner project of mine.

I have the 88 Topps Sox team set and this Gedman joins my Bob Stanley auto from that set. The Bichette is my 2nd auto for that team set, joining Brian Daubach. I wish Bichette didn't have a crappy marker, but I still like the card.

Speaking of Sox autos, I am thrilled with how this Bradley card came out. I think the auto really pops! The highlight of the night was going to the table with these 2 guys. Colabello says something to Bradley like just don't catch it when I hit it. I said "that's going to be hard, because he catches everything." Colabello looks at me and says "EVERYTHING! It's so annoying. I've been playing against him since double A and if you hit it out of the infield it better be over the wall." The banter at that table was a lot of fun.

Some 70's love. The McGregor is the only auto I got that bled. That's OK, I already have his auto on an 83 Topps. Gale's RC was multi-player, so '79 was his first solo card. I picked up a really nice OPC and I'm happy how it turned out. Very legible sig.

Lockwood is another guy who had a multi-player RC. '70 is his first solo card. I'm digging this one, between the thin marker and the Pilots aspect. For those who don't know much about LaRocca, he had a brief major league career, but was a star in Japan and HR champ over there.

My last 2 autos were a couple of youngsters. Cole is with the Jays' double A affiliate and this is a Bowman chrome mini. I really like the thin signature. Very happy with that card. Drake was a rookie reliever for the O's this past season and put up stellar numbers. His only card I could find was this one from 2015 Heritage Minors. Too bad he covered his face, but not like he had a lot of room.

In addition to these 12 cards for me, I got luis Tiant to sign my 12 year old's autograph book and Bob Stanley to sign a card for my 9 year old. 3 minor leaguers signed a ball and the rest of them signed the program (except for Backlund).

All in all it was a great night for a great cause, and we all said it was the most fun we've had out of the 4 years we've been going there. If you live in New England, I highly recommend going to this dinner next year.

Very cool! I really like the Fielder.

Who was the actor from Field of Dreams? I'll guess Archie Graham, real name Frank Whaley. Did I win?

The actor was Dwier Brown, who played kevin costner's dad.

    I really enjoyed this, Dan.

That 86D Fielder evokes some great memories; I always felt like the absolute shiznit when I pulled one of those bad boys from a pack.

Love the ancillary Carp project you have going on as well -- a lot of people forget how m-o-n-e-y he was for the Cards.

And believe it or not, my fav sig is the Bichette. Something about those multicolored streaks that give it a little extra flava...

I purposely didn't get his autograph. It's not like he refused.

Holy cow, I can't believe the Jackie Bradley Jr. autograph! I had him sign something for me two years ago down in Florida. I told him it was cool to see someone who took the time to sign his name legibly so people could read it, and he thanked me for the compliment. I guess I should've known it'd be too good to be true to think it would last!

Yep, and Keith Foulke is the other one on that page. It's a Red Sox coffee table book I brought with me to Red Sox Fantasy Camp two years ago. It's in Fort Myers in January with about 25 former players. JBJ just happened to be down there a month early to start working out early, so it shows his work ethic.

Very cool, Dan. I also love the thin marker signatures. Very neat and pretty. I assume you're going to the Cappelletti signing? WHat are you going to bring?

Great stuff Dan. I remember last year's thread. This one looks like it was another great event. Cool that there is a mix of active and retired players.

The Cappelletti signing was today. Unfortunately I couldn't make it. Luckily I've already met him in person, have 15 autographs, and his address if I want to do more TTM. I still would like to meet him again some day soon, but today just didn't work for me.

Still hoping to meet Hannah and Tippett someday.
  • I was there as well. I asked Jackie to sign his "college" autograph but he had no idea what I was speaking about. Colabello was pretty cool to talk to. I asked him about his recent appearance on MLB network and he also told me he hadn't seen the card of him I was having him sign until that day. He said it was his favorite card. 2015 topps update. I was also fortunate to win the Brock Holt autographed jersey in the silent auction.

As an aside, Scott McGregor was a HS teammate of George Brett & actually had a higher Batting Average!

Cool cards, but what was on the menu for dinner? image

Lol the main course was BBQ chicken. It was OK, but I don't go for the food.
