Home PSA Set Registry Forum

Milestone reached!

After starting this set in 1999, it took me 16 long years, but I finally have all 752 cards graded, just the third complete set in the registry.

Wow that's an incredible accomplishment!! Congrats!! Always liked 71 OPC, I feel like the black borders of high grade 71's really accentuate the rough cut. Headed to the registry now to check out your set!

Just checked it out. As a Sox fan, I love the set name! And that PSA 7 Yaz is a beast of a card that I would love to own. Congrats again.

Thanks guys. I really stumbled to the finish line, having to add a bunch of threes and one two to make it. Hopefully, I'll be able to upgrade those cards in the future.

That is an impressive feat~OPC cards are a beast to find in any grade. I'm surprised they don't have greater appeal among collectors than they do.

I recall once opening a 71 OPC pack that was GAI graded (the only one I ever opened) and pulling a PSA 9 1/1 that I sold for (IIRC) about $125. This was about 6-7 years ago. I don't even recall the player's name.

Thanks, I never planned to build the entire set when I started, figured I'd just get the stars graded. When Diamond Jim started building his awesome set, he sort of inspired me to think bigger, although I couldn't fathom that such a high grade set could be built. Then Alan came along and built an even higher grade set; realistically, Alan's set gpa at 8.45 is probably on par with building the 1971 Topps set in 10, maybe even tougher. I had help from Jim, Raymond Santis, Luke Brown and last, but not least, Tom Salem in building the set, but most of my cards were self subs. I would like to upgrade the cards that grade 4 and lower, but I'll put it on the back burner for now.

Great accomplishment!! You've inspired me to send off my raw set to PSA for grading (I probably have 40 already graded). Of course I need to wait until Bishop (Al) gets here to help me. image

Congratulations. I have several graded cards from that set, but I cannot image the difficulty in completing it. I admire your determination.
  • Congratulations! After completing the 1969 OPC Baseball Set, I too, got sucked into the 1971 OPC Baseball set!

I am doing it with a twist to make it even MORE difficult. I am collecting only and ALL PSA 7's with no qualifiers!

I am about 50% complete thanks in part to buying an incredible raw set a few years back at $4500!

Never have seen anything like it since. Had a TON of HOF'ers that I sold out of the set in PSA 8.

Along the way I too have had some help in building it up!

Again, CONGRATS! This set truly is the "TOUGH ONE" !
