NEWP IPM

New to the dark side. But I'm enjoying it! Naughty, naughty.

Since the bug has bitten, here's another: Betts 401 IPM, US Mint restrike of the Treaty of Easton Medal from the original die, broken by this point. . Originally struck 1857, restrike from early 19th c.

Oh heck, let's do another. Restrike, but getting my feet wet without the big hurt.

George II IPM Treaty of Easton again. But this one is a restrike of newly Prepared dies 1882. Early strike. Gem.

    Nice peace medals!

It's interesting to observe the large decrease in artistic quality, especially in the comical looking lion's head on the obverse, on the 1882 dies.

Iosephus, totally agreed. As I gain knowledge in this area perhaps I can shed insight as opposed to the readily assumed lack in skill. Thanks for your input.

The hunting scene on the first is interesting. Was it primitively cast, poorly preserved, or both? Despite being "ugly", it's definitely "cool-ugly"!

I could swear I saw an example of that first restrike just last night, in my browsing. I was on CRO and Kraljevich's site, among others...?

My guess would be poor preservation. Not from storage, but use and perhaps spent some time in the ground. These were not stored and protected by collectors, but rather held onto by North American First people's. I'm not sure about trade medals, but many recipients of peace medals were buried with them.

Yes, the first restrike shown is courtesy of CRO. The Indian Trade Medalet is courtesy of the esteemed JK.

Very neat medalets. I haven't seen much of these and would like to see and learn more.
