Anyone check out the new episode tonight? It was about the autographed pic that sold for $179,000 this year through Heritage.

It seemed like that family that owned those pictures were really nice folks, so I was happy the pictures sold so well. I think they said over 300K for all of them.
Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

Did the episode mention anything about the fact that Shoeless Joe's wife signed most items for him because he couldn't read or write? That must have been a tough one to authenticate. Probably near impossible to know what his signature looked like. Glad that a good family benefitted from the rare memorabilia.
No, it didn't mention anything about Joe's wife signing most items.
The Pictures were taken by a Cleveland sports photographer during spring training 1911, and I think he had most of the photos personally signed himself. There was a really nice one signed by Christy Mathewson, another by Nap Lajoie.
Steve Grad had an authentic Jackson auto to compare this one to, and he said you could really tell Joe struggled to write his name, nothing fluid at all about his auto. So when his wife signed for him, I imagine it would be easy for an expert to tell the difference.
