1853 British Half sovereign

What's the diameter of this coin? and does a high circ grade coin have any numismatic value or is it only gold value? TIA.

19.3 mm. Probably a hard sell at less than EF; at that level maybe 350 USD. What is "TIA", other than transient ischemic attack?

Also depends on the year - mint. 7jaguars answer is spot on.

Oh, that's a lot more benign...I have a "pet" collection of young head half sovs - nicer bits are hard to come by. There is an 1862 coming up in the NYINC Heritage sale at about 15k+ - well, there's always a stopper.

You know, I bought a $4 caliper the other day on Ebay. With some ancients, people do not give measurements if they are not a full time dealer. What an easy cheap solution to a long frustrating blank spot on my 2x2s. Cheap plastic but works great.

These are really attractive coins and at some point when I can afford gold, they would be nice to collect. That and 5 ruble coins from like Nicholas II. Stuff that mostly gets bullion value unless it is really gem.

Exactly why I started them even though I have primarily silver and copper. Try finding some of the tougher ones in nicer preservation besides the 1862: 1845, 1850, 1879.....
