Which would you keep?

Hey Gang - I've found myself in a quandry. Maybe you can help.

First up is a pair of 56 Mantles. One goes into the PC and one gets sold. I can't justify keeping both. All of my Mantles are low-mid grade, with an eye for centering. The 4 was self-subbed and is pretty sharp overall except for centering and the lower left side border. The 2 is simply well-centered. I'm truly stuck here. The 4 was self subbed and is a much cleaner card...but it will also command more for other interests and the 2 is centered better, fitting the rest. I do have a slight lean, but figured I'd see what the field says...

Next up is a pair of Killebrews. After looking for a while for a centered copy, I first found the 5. A week later I stumbled onto the 4 and dropped a late snipe on it and won. I've gone back and forth on these. Again...one goes into PC and the other just goes.

What would you do?

Opinions welcome.

Jim, first of all, they're all great cards. Assuming the back is clean, I would keep the Mantle 2 and sell the PSA 4. The 4 is OC enough that even I find it distracting, and there's the stain on the bottom border. For the Killebrew, I would keep the PSA 5 and sell the 4. Good luck!

Definitely the Mick in the 2. I say keep the Killebrew 4, that imperfection on the lower left border detracts from the overall appeal IMO.

Unless there is a significant sentimental value with the Mick in 4 I think that is an easy decision to stick with the 2 and sell the 4. I think the 2 has better eye appeal and yet you would get more from a sale because of the label on the 4. With the Killebrew, it's a little closer, but I vote to keep the 5. They both look great, but the upper right corner on the 4 takes away from the look of the card and since I think the sale value on the 5 and 4 will be relatively close anyway, why not keep the better looking card. IMO, it is always right to keep the card you think looks the best, without knowing what you have into the cards and what you can get out of them. Good luck with your sales!

Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback. I've been leaning towards the 2 and the 4. Looks like there's agreement on the Mantle at least. Might have to stew on the killer a little more.

I'd go with the 4 on the Killer. As someone already stated, the stain on the border is distracting. Why not sell the higher dollar card and keep the one with better eye appeal?
  • Id keep the 2 and the 4, but that's just me.

I like the Mantle 2 and Killebrew 4. Better centering, cleaner front, and better overall eye appeal in my opinion. You will probably get a better return for the two higher graded cards and have more money for other purchases. image

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

+1. This exactly what I was thinking. I really like the 2 and the 4. Congrats. Best of luck on whatever you decide to do, Jim.

I'd keep the Mantle 2 and the Killebrew 4 as well as I find both of those to have better overall eye appeal than their counterparts (I find the centering on the 4 Mantle very distracting relative to the other one), and hopefully cover the cost of a portion of their ownership w/ net profit from sales of the other two.
