Wilmington MA card show

Did anyone go to the Shriner's card show in Wilmington this past weekend? We went and I was able to finish off my 1971, 1975 and 1976 Topps baseball sets. I also found the last card I needed to finish off the 1966 Batman blue series set. I almost pulled the trigger on a 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig but was talked out of it. Overall it was a great show with plenty of dealers. Some were crazy with their asking price but if you wait you could find the same item for cheaper. I was looking for a 1955 Berra and one dealer wanted $85 for it . It was off center and beat up. He told me it is an expensive card and this is what I should expect to pay if I want it. A few minutes later I found the same card for $50 and in better condition.

This has always been a great show. I set up there many times back when I lived in Mass.

They always had good auto guests. Attendance was always great. Good show for dealers and collectors

Haven't gone in a couple of years, but I do like that show. Usually a great show for set builders with all of the raw tables that are set up there.

Man, would have loved to get Evans for my 74 Topps Red Sox set! Fisk too, but especially Evans!

heritage, funny that you mentioned 71 hockey--I attended the show on Friday and went back saturday too (its only about a 30 minute drive for me); on saturday I picked up a beautiful 71 topps hockey complete set, all psa graded (72 8's, 14 8.5's, 44 9's and 2 10's is the breakdown); I didn't own a single 71 before the weekend and now I have the set image. On Friday I picked up three nice gai packs all in first generation holders: 63 topps baseball five cent gai 8 and 74 hockey and 76 football both gai 9's. It was a really strong show--the guy I bought the packs from sold a guy i know a beautiful 71 topps baseball gai 8.5 (or 9, can't remember) pack prior to me buying the three I bought. Didn't see half of the room/tables as I always get wrapped up in long conversations with people I know and old friends--in the future I need to start focusing on looking/buying more and talking less!image

Only went on Sat. Dealers packed the floor, it was nice. Lots of the usual displays but there seemed to be a good

mix of new blood. Picked up quite a few minty raw singles for my 70's basketball sets. Should have went back on Sunday

but was feeling the hangover plus the Pats were on early. Surprised to see more wax than usual, BBCE FASC was representing

Maybe it was me but a lot of the high grade cards that I saw seemed 'low end' up close. Good to hear from dealers that

they were having a good show. Again, wish I spent more time there as I generally have good luck finding stuff, the dealers to me seem

workable, and it is by far the best show

Mikelowell25, I saw you packing up that set. Mark from Slapshot is great! Killer set for sure, I saw it when he picked it up at his shop.

initialD and heritage, thanks for the kind words guys!!image

initialD, were you the guy who tried to pickpocket me while I was going through the cards lol?!?! (Just kidding of course!). In all seriousness, I hope I didnt give you any dirty looks while I was packing up the set--when I was going through the cards a few people were trying to look at the other stuff in his cases and hovering around me and I need my space when I'm going through 132 cards and trying to concentrate/focus!

Thanks heritage--are you working on a raw set or a graded one??

Also, if you dont mind me asking, where are you guys from??

This sounds like a solid show. How often does it come around?

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

Haha, nah I was doing my last rounds and had to go grab a beer. I was just talking with Mark right before.

Again, very nice set! Congrats and the Dryden in 9 to boot!
