Is this Jordan Fleer PSA 8 Rookie worth a review? Best way to store 85 Bulls Star Bag Set?

I just picked up this PSA 8 MJ, sure looks nice. Worth a shot to bump to 8.5 or maybe a 9? Also what is the best way to store a Star bag set? I am very tempted to open it and submit the MJ to BGS though. Thanks

That card is Mint all day! Definitely review.

The best way to store that team bag is in my closet with all my other cards, pm me for my address.

Is that a smudge under the basketball on the '86 card?

It is a smudge on the holder, not the card.

I put bagged sets in between two card savers, slipped into a slab bag. For extra rigidity, you can slip a piece of think cardboard in each card saver, but you obviously won't be able to see through to the cards.

I would definitely send that Jordan in for review.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • heck yeah! that's at least an 8.5. GREAT pickup!

Nice pickups. I would review or even crack and resubmit the Fleer. Does BGS grade the team set bags? I thought I have seen that before. If so, I would definitely do that.

GAI graded the Team bags, but I don't believe they are in business any longer. BGS does not grade the team bags.

Allen, yeah I was worried that it was GAI where I had seen the bags in holders. Obviously can't do that any more and wouldn't want to given how things ended with them. That is one of the sharper Jordan #101's I have seen. Have you thought about just opening the bag and sending the card to BGS? That would be a very high dollar card in a holder. I would would worry about the safety of the card in the team bag. But I am biased as I collect almost exclusively graded cards. When/where did you pick these up if you don't mind answering.

The Jordan is absolutely worth a review, nice looking card.

I'm not sure if BGS still grades Star sealed bags, but it looks like they did/are.

It doesn't look secured in the holder, but if you're going to sell, authenticated and holdered might be the way to go (if they still grade them).

Review it and they'll certainly bump it to a 9...crack it out and you may end up with a 10. A little white showing on the bottom right corner, but I've seen worse cards in a 10 holder. Of course I would inspect it carefully for surface indentations which would not show up on a scan. Good luck.

BGS only graded a few bags from a specific collection when they first started grading Star Co. cards. They will no longer grade bags. I think in terms of rarity the bag sets are much more rare than the single cards. There are only 426 graded Jordans in Beckett's pop report and they have been grading them for about 6 or 7 years. They are very inconsistent in grading these cards, I know of one that was cracked and subbed 3 times and teh centering ranged from 7 to 9 subgrade. I think this card is a lock for an 8 with a fair shot at 8.5 which is a $7-$9K card.

Anyone know if BBCE would have a way to preserve or wrap they set similar to his box authentication?

I got these cards yesterday from a friend who deals in the area. The PSA 8 is kind of a random card that he acquired in a deal, but the Star set was from a local collector who was the original owner. We all knew he had some Star sets, but he didn't really need the money and he always said he wasn't exactly sure where the Bulls set was. He found it last week. The set has spent most of the past 30 years in a box in a desk drawer.

That card may bump to an 8.5 but no higher. I'm seeing white on both right corners. Also there's a chip on the upper right edge that looks to be partially on the surface. If it 9's I would be totally shocked.

That was my initial thought as well, though I think it's a pretty easy bump to 8.5.

  • Counselor showed one off here not long ago, and some of us were a little off with those grading opinions. His buyer earned an 8.5, so I'd go with the try for a bumpity-bump just for the centering. Those white touches tend to stand out with a scan, but I'd guess the card looks better in hand.
  • The surface is usually the killer on all cards, this set is no exception. If I had to guess this would already be in a 9 holder if it was without flaw, which it most likely isn't...hence why it's an 8. You may be able to get it to an 8.5 but that would be it most likely
