Crossover Question/Opinion

Hello. I wanted to know what the forum thought about crossovers. For example if I had a BVG 8 and sent in for a crossover and said minimum of PSA 7. do you think that PSA would grade looking at 7 minimum or like it was a raw card? Thanks for your opinions.

  • It's anyone's guess. There's a lot of variables that go into it. It just depends how strong the card is that you're crossing over. That being said, I don't think you're out of line w looking for a grade lower conversion as mentioned so it should be pretty safe.

I guess what I am asking is does PSA ever grade higher than the minimum grade you put on form?

  • I wouldn't see why not.

I just wondered if the graders would think "Well if he thinks this only deserves a 7, I'll only give a 7.

You just can't predict. Some might simply agree with the BVG grade and pass it on, some would not. I would predict you will generally get a grade lower, but getting a higher grade could, and sometimes does happen. If you are pretty sure you "deserve" a higher grade, cracking out the card and submitting it raw might be the way to go!

    Good luck!

  • Put a bit of thought into the value aspect. If you send a card which is theoretically in the 100-200 dollar range and your expectation catapults into the 1000+ range, then seemingly, more scrutiny might be needed. They don't just hand out money, ya know. As much as that scrutiny might result in an improved opinion, it still seems like a better risk to send in a card with no purported history and let them decide with a fresh opinion.
