Is that the same location as the National this year?

It is the same location as the National, but it is on the second floor which isn't as large as the National area downstairs.

If anyone IS going and would be kind enough to get Jason Taylor on a card for me, I'll pay $10 for your time.

Might be a little far for Lugers - we can find something nice but closer.

I'm going tonight but I'm not VIP. I'm mostly into older unopened product and there was very little there last time I went. I guess I'm just looking unless I see something nice. I would really like to get more 1970's PSA packs.

I sure wish BBCE would make an appearance or two at these shows! I'll be there at 4:30. I shouldn't be hard to find... a 39 y/o guy, white, slightly overweight, wearing sports clothes :-)

I think BBCE only does the National. I would like to see them too but I can understand it must be a real pain to move all of those heavy boxes and cases. It is much easier to just let the orders roll in online and ship them out.

Borgata has the Old Homestead, and you get to cut your own meat, unlike Lugers.

I'm about 30 miles from it and want to go tomorrow...but this snow likely going to put a wrench in the plans. Maybe a miracle happens and it goes north to Wisconsin!

  • I had a nice time at the show tonight. Crowd was a nice size considering the weather. I always enjoy seeing the athletes at the autograph pavilion, such as Andre Dawson, Marcus Allen, and Jerry Rice.

Here are some quick photos of stuff I thought looked cool. It really is a microcosm of the National: Lots of vintage, lots of modern, not much in-between. For those that love 80's ad 90's baseball and basketball, you really need to search. Not complaining, as anytime you can go to a card show is a good day, but if you are looking for mid 90's inserts and tough parallels of your favorite player, you may be out of luck.

I did see a lot of money changing hands, and deals made. I tried to bring home a nice 1961 Fleer Wilt PSA 4, but the price was about $400 over what PWCC gets for the card so I had to pass. What's funny is that my favorite purchase of the night was a 1987 Fleer Cello pack with the Sandberg/Parker card on front. I've been scouring eBay for years for that card, and it shows up tonight! Best $5 spent.

    Here are some random pics:

    $1650 for an 86 drexler 10? $3k for Ewing?

I don't imagine too much money was changing hands at those prices.

But at least the cards are priced, right?

I went last night and was looking for a few "iconic cards". All are Topps. Here is a small list of prices. I didn't buy anything since they were all above VCP average and some were above the VCP high number. I'm assuming some would negotiate but I didn't bother.

1952 Mantle PSA 1, there were about five that I noticed. The condition varies so much on this grade. I saw prices of about $5,800 - $8,500. A PSA 2.5 was $27,500 and SGC 35/2.5 $18,500. When I see about 10 total 1952 Mantles in one room it makes me realize this is not a rare card in lower grades. I wonder how long prices can keep going up. All of the ones I saw were on the low end except one AH had a PSA 6 on display. I understand on the high end this is a rare card but high grade prices are totally out of reach of average collectors.

    1963 Rose SGC 88 $3,600, PSA 6 $1400, PSA 7 $2400, PSA 8 $6500.

    1968 N. Ryan PSA 7.5 $2,000, PSA 8 $6,000

    1973 Schmidt SGC 88 $450, PSA 7 $250

    1975 G. Brett PSA 8.5 $625, PSA 7 $275, PSA 8 $800, PSA 9 $2600

    1980 R. Henderson PSA 9 $425, SGC 96 $350, PSA 9 $375, PSA 9 $350

    75 Brett 8 was priced at $800? That's like a $200 card.

    A 68 Ryan 8 is probably $3,200-3,500.

I'm confident they were "high for the grade", right? image

I should put this over on the "pet peeves" thread, as this is the sort of thing that bugs me. At some price level, it seems clear there's no actual interest in selling. The cards are just there to be "seen".

I think most people expect SOME negotiating to be done at shows, but this is the sort of thing that turns a lot of people off. I'm sure if you offered YOUR same graded card for sale, the prices would be reset pretty quickly.

Heck - if seller's like this would even just let you TRADE at something comparable to their crazy prices, but that doesn't happen either.

I can't figure it out. Everyone is "buying" at these shows. Are they paying too much for their inventory or just trying to make to much profit? I would love to know what kind of mark up they are working with. If they put it on ebay they have to lower their prices and pay the paypal and ebay fees so that is a 10-12% loss right there. As a buyer I would pay a slight premium over ebay to be able to inspect the card in person.

One of the 1952 Mantle PSA 1 stuck out because it was not bad looking for $8,500 except it had some kind of stain on the front lower left corner.

It was a good show. Prices were high and it was well attended. Our hobby showed strength this weekend even with the bad weather...both Modern and Vintage were on display equally. Not a lot of vintage unopened...only one table that specialized in it and those packs weren't selling. It's BBCE authenticated or the highway pretty much in that category. Again, these observations are just based on this past weekend. It was great as always to hang out with Jeff, and his cards are amazing. He's got a gorgeous 59T PSA 7 and 8 Mantle that would have been mine if I hadn't already just got one.

I should have taken a video of lines of people of all ages waiting to get in Friday...I'm sure your "more than one person" that you heard from wasn't one of those people. Lot of interest. As for your rotflyao...can't help ya there.

Thanks Steven. Was awesome seeing you. Idk what other guys thought from a sales perspective, but for me it was the highest dollar total I've ever sold there. As for the Rose- yep it's mine. I'm not disappointed it didn't sell. It's a beauty.

If the Rose you mentioned is the one on your site that card is an absolute beast. Centering and corners are incredible on that one. I know others would state the same but if Jeff told me a card was good enough and one I wanted I would buy sight unseen - have done it before and never been disappointed. Hopefully you have some cards left to sell image

Jeff did have a very nice selection of "iconic cards". He had one of the best booths there IMO.

didnt know about this show but sounds legit...should I be attending, what am i missing?

KC..i bet the view was much better in PR. Lets just say...a 2 piece vs stained football jersey and what comes in it? Hmmm...easy decision.
Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all. image

BTW..what were the reasons they said it was one of the worst ST shows ever? seriously,...ive never attended and would like to know their reasons.

PR was nice. We had our sales meetings at a Waldorf Astoria resort on the eastern side of the island. Got up most mornings to work out at 5:30 with meetings all day and some good meals at night. Did a sweet fishing trip on Thursday where we caught a ton of Jack, red snapper, a bonefish, a tarpon, and a couple of lady fish. Cool thing was the snapper we caught they cooked at the marina restaurant for us for lunch. We even got to feed some 3-4 foot tarpon by hand at the dock. Saw several 5-6 footers in the marina but not allowed to fish for them there. Those things looked like torpedoes in the water!
