Extreme Rainbow PCGS Grades in!

Hi, thanks for looking. I realize this is Canadian, but I don't post over on the dark side so no one would know me so I hope you don't mind me sharing with you all here in the US Forum.

I acquired these Extreme Rainbow toned Canadian Dollars over a period of two years. Only picking the craziest Monster toned examples to have graded.

I am happily surprised at my percentage and some of the 68 grades! Wow, just wow! This is one post that isn't necessarily worthless without pics, although I hope to be posting them in the next couple weeks.

Thanks for looking. Doug

I think it is the 1971-1973 that are commonly wild due to the packaging of those three years. Purples/blues/oranges.

The TrueViews are all there, nice looking coins! These Canadian coins tend to tone up really wildly.

as already mentioned, the packaging from 1971-1973 caused the tone which is quite common with 1973 being the most difficult to find really nice. I have perhaps 20 of these with incredible color depending upon which side was left facing up in the holder, everything from intense blue to deep red/maroon.

Thanks all for your comments thus far.

I wish I could emphasize that the coins are neon screamers in hand, versus just the colors caught by the fine work at PCGS. I will send them to Kryptonite Comics for pics to better show their radioactive nature, lol.

Yeah, you have to cut the prices shown by pcgs price guide in half...and then in half again, to get closer to market value...lol. I wish our coins fetched price guide numbers! lol

A couple months or so ago PCGS added TrueView to Secure Plus at no additional charge. I am not a Darkside collector so I am not familiar with the requirement for Secure Plus for non-US submittals.

Fun fact: I pretty much got my start cherry picking these coins and photographing them to sell online.

There are no surprises there. The Canadian commemoratives from that era often come beautifully toned due to the packaging and it isn't unusual for those coins (especially the 1971's and 1972's) to come with monsterous toning. Because those coins often come beautifully toned and toning premiums are relatively low compared to other coin issues, there are not many of those coins that are doctored or artificially toned. Because of that the success percentage of getting those coins into holders is fairly high.

As a toning enthusiast the OP probably knew all that already but for those who don't...
