Here is a very unique item. It is a medal made out of Meteorite material. It was made by "The Meteor Man" Robert Haag from Tucson, AZ in 1986 to commemorate comet Hally.
600 medals were made under very laborious circumstances. To melt the meteorite, a furnace had to heat the crystallized iron to three times the normal melting point of iron. It proved difficult to pour the molten metal into the ceramic form. It would sputter and solidify before it made its way in. To make the cast work, the ceramic mold had to be heated and spun simultaneously in a centrifuge. After the medals cooled the had to be cleaned and polished to make a suitable attractive medal.
This medal is 49 mm and comes with a triangular wooden stand. This is paired with a 235.5 gram meteorite. I don't have any information on the source of the meteorite.
