I don't like it but I suppose that's always how change is.

If anyone read what Jackie had to say?

The old site could not be "modified" to accept updates - so this was the best way to handle it.

Things are being fixed on a daily basis.

I'm already getting used to the "new" look.

I'm hoping our browsers will work better in the future.

As I asked - I'd like for us to be able to add youtube "Directly" to our post instead of a link - like other sites possess.

Also, my next request will be - can we copy something directly that not only adds the narrative but also the graphics.

E.g. - if I copy this narrative about the Sci-Fi - This Island Earth - I get this:

    Storyline

The electronic engineer Dr. Cal Meacham is a prominent scientist that is studying industrial application of nuclear energy and also a great pilot. One day, he receives a different condenser and soon his assistant Joe Wilson receives a manual instruction and several components of a sophisticated machine. Carl and Joe build a communication apparatus and a man called Exeter contacts Carl. He tells that Carl has passed the test assembling the Interocitor and invites him to join his research. The intrigued Carl decides to travel to meet Exeter that sends an unmanned airplane to bring him to an isolated facility in Georgia. He is welcomed by Dr. Ruth Adams but she mysteriously does not recall their love affair in the past. They team-up with Dr. Steve Carlson and they note that the other scientists in the facility have been transformed, having a weird behavior. They decide to flee in a car, but they are attacked by rays and Steve dies. Carl and Ruth also witness the facility blowing-up and ... Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

With some sites I can copy direct and get the narrative with the actual font they use:

    image

This isn't a major thing - but I think it "jazzes" up our posts a bit.

OK, I know. Too much time on my hands?

    You bet! I'm retired. image

I haven't had a problem with spacing anymore.

    Maybe the IT fixed it?

I've waited to weigh in as I tend to be old school and don't like change.

I think I like it and it's grown on me with each passing day. As with any new thing it takes time to work out the bugs and for us to figure where things are.

New board is better than the old board. Still about 10 years dated but better than the last one that was 15+ years dated.

I def like having the menu on the left side for convenience sake. People will get use to the changes. But def nothing overwhelmingly negative that I can think of.

Oh, any way to change your username? Been stuck with it for some time.

We have never been in control of that - I would guess if you contact PSA - perhaps they can change it?

My guess. They'll say no since it could become a full time job?

I'm happy they changed it so we can change our icons any time we want with something new off our own files.

I personally don't like it. image First I had to make myself look like a f-ing IDIOT because I couldn't figure out how to get to the PMs, and NOW I can't figure out why my graded cards/insert checklists in the BST forum is now all one paragraph. image I really could use y'all's help in checking these off but that can't be done if nobody can read it. image

the functionality of making posts with lists needs to be tweaked. Anywhere else when you hit enter it creates a new line and you can make easy to read lists. That needs to be fixed. Also we should be able to just paste in links from photobucket and get pics. Just a couple little tweaks and that would go a long way to making the new boards very nice.
  • I can't figure out how to change the lite blue color of the lists of posts. It is a PITA to read.

Does anyone know how to change your account settings now (specifically your icon)?
  • seebelowseebelow Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭
it looks like the icons are now limited. thats a loss. but apparently you can download your own pics as your avatar. thats a win. I liked the huge list of available icons that were there.

I like it better than I did at first, but still prefer the old format, particularly when it comes to PMs.

But like all changes, it will take some getting used to.

In this case it's not PMs, rather PMS!

Hearing issues about adding images to PM's - anyone been able to make them work yet? Before it was easy with photobucket.

Lists can be accomplished by putting a break at the end of line. Breaks are nothing more than typing br in between a < and >. They are not something you see once you hit reply. For example, this is what it looks like if I were to put a break into these sentences.

when I put the br in between the < and the >

A 'p' between them also works (paragraph).

  • I appreciate the help, but manually entering in HTML code to format text into paragraphs is hardly a sustainable solution. Hopefully this is at the top of the forum admin's to-do list of needed improvements.
  • I really hate this change. Its such a turn off. The fonts are to darn small. This site looks like a complete disaster now. Looks like they went back 15 years in time. Its absolutely horrible. I don't even go on as much since the change. Its too cluttered and its really a god awful mess.

If you click on the "A+" button on the top right corner of the screen, you can enlarge the font size for the site.

I am still having difficulty posting images in PMs, though. The image brackets are not working, apparently, although they do work in actual posts.

  • Thanks a bunch Tim. The fonts looks better now as I clicked on the A+ but overall, I am just really not pleased with the lay out in general.

So, what's the trick to having the post format able to display paragraph breaks as typed instead of them being run all together? I can't figure out this problem & it seems others are having trouble with it too.

  • LarkinCollectorLarkinCollector Posts: 8,975 ✭✭✭✭✭
Add '< p >' with no spaces before each paragraph start.

Great, so now we have to write code for proper structure.

I'm not a fan. And not to beat the 'if it ain't broke' drum because I'm usually in favor of change but look what happened to Beckett's website. It hasn't worked properly for 10 years and it started when they 'upgraded', then messed up their Registry by 'upgrading' it and lost tons of graded card data while they were at it. Now it's a ghost town over there with all those collectors migrating to what was at the time were very small collector community websites but which are now huge.

i simply hit the regular "reply" button. type, post pics, links the old way BUT "cut" it out and "paste" into the "quick reply".

seems to work pretty good so far. of course, still an unnecessary step.

One annoying aspect of the new format for me is that when viewing posts on my smart phone, I have to move left to right or shrink the text to read the post. With the old format, I could simply tap the post and it would automatically resize all posts in that particular thread to fit the screen on my phone. First world problems, I know, lol.

I just read through all of the posts for the first time. Armed with the knowledge of previous posters I hit the A+ in the upper right to increase font size (easier on these old eyes) and the "Hide" in the upper left (to get rid of the column on the left) and now the page looks similar to what the old site looked like.

As for the functionality I'll have hold off judgement until I have a need to use them.

Maybe we can get PSA to change it back by starting a thread that asks to please change it back. It is an absolute mess and almost impossible to navigate through.
