Pack Grading Help

I subbed several packs at the National and they just popped. I don't sub many packs but one of them says:

1979 Topps Baseball Cello Pack Cello Pack Willie McCovey-Back

I'm curious what that means. If it is fake I find it very strange as that pack came from a 1979 cello box I bought and the other 3 packs with stars showing came back as graded. Just curious what that means.

Altered stock means Steve didn't feel comfortable enough to authenticate it. The pack is not necessarily no good. Is the seal on back loose? Steve will not authenticate a pack if seal is loose, either, even though pack may be fine.

Thanks, glad to know. I don't recall it being any looser than the rest but will check it when it gets here. it was tight wrapped like the other 79's I subbed but I must have missed something or really didn't know what I should have been looking for. I can study this one and see what the differences are. Thanks Grote.

Sorry you got a designation of "Altered" from a submission. I have a few and I just keep them to compare to other seals. Like noted above it doesn't mean it's 100% bad but Steve should error on the side of caution unfortunately for the one who submits for grading. None of my seals were loose or anything!

Well I just got the package and I can tell you I need schooled in what the heck was / is the issue. maybe at the next National I go to I can bring my N5 Altered 1979 Cello and either Steve or one of the many of you with much more experience than I can clue me in. On a bright note, my 1980 cello with Schmidt front / McCovey back came back a 9 as well as my 82,84,85 and 87 cellos with Walter Payton on front. The 84 is now a pop 2 with none higher. ?? Someday I will figure out how to post some pics.
