Stopped at an estate sale Saturday........Did pretty good

After I dropped my daughter off at work on Saturday, I stopped at an estate sale. They had the usual estate / garage sale household items but when I went inside I saw a coffee table with mostly newer cards on it. There were some sprinkled older cards but nothing worth while. They did have a Jerry Rice rookie for $12.00 but three soft corners and one slightly rounded. I saw a hockey binder and saw the checklist below. I figured it was worth about $40.00 because it was OPC and unmarked. So we settled on a price of $22.00 for the binder. I get home and saw the "book" price on the checklist was $175.00 and was getting about $75. on ebay in that condition. Below are just some of the cards from the binder which included stars like Bossy, and Lafluer. All pictured are OPC.

Nice job. It's nice to hear about success stories. Good luck with your flip. I never stop at garage or estate sales. I was walking buy a mom and pop thrift type store at a recent Octoberfest fair and they had a table with cards on it. I looked quickly and they were just 90's FB commons wrapped in lots being sold for $1 so I kept walking and spent my money on ice cream for my kid instead.

  • Nice find. Are estate sales all that productive? I heard that you have to be in line early. On the weekends.

I only stop at garage sales once in a while. I rarely find cards dated before 1987 unless they are commons in poor condition and asking mint prices. I do find other sports items like Philadelphia Flyers glasses and mugs for anywhere from 25 cents to $2.00. Some of them I get $8.00 to $10.00 and even $30.00 for the ceramic ones from the cup years. I sell them on ebay and I have a small showcase rented at an antique mart.

  • You can find some great items at estate sales and auctions. In my travels I rarely see individual cards set out. It's mostly binders or boxes.I do quite well flipping stuff, but I go to lots of auctions and such.I'm already over 5x my money this month, with half of my purchases left to sell.Last month I found a couple shoe boxes full of 90's Jordan inserts in a truck load of stuff at an auction.I can't share exact locations to save on competition, image , but I have heard about a sale that might/might not have some early Fleer basketball boxes and sets/singles.So if you can put in the time and travel you can find some great stuff.
    I really like serious people.

All I ever find are 1988 topps baseball sets at yard sales.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
