Why Wouldn't PSA Grade my Ripken 1992 Super Diamond King?

These Super Diamond King cards from Donruss in 1992 are fairly scarce and while I've owned this Ripken since '92, they can still sell in ungraded condition for over $1000.

I dropped this card off for grading at the PSA table @ The Phiily Show a few weeks ago and it came back yesterday ungraded with the notation "Too Big; No Holder."

What a buzzkill.......Will SGC slab this?

Any insight would be appreciated.

i wonder if they'd slab it like the type photos???

were you trying to get it graded or just slabbed "authentic" or something?

I was just informed that all Donruss DK supers won't be graded anymore because of a tendency of incurred damage when holdering. Whatever else this may effect is unbeknownst to

I guess buying them and waiting for the next Super special was a bad idea then? Does this make them Optional now for all the registries or just allow people that have them graded already to charge insane amounts?

  • It's too bad too because that's probably a $500 Ripken ungraded and it looks very nice as these issues were very tough to find in premium condition

Weird. They definitely have a slab large enough for that. If they're worried about damage, an easy way to avoid that would be to have the card sandwiched between two of the plastic liners. That would keep it from sliding around. I would call the grading dept and ask if that's an option.

They damaged some 5x7 cards I sent in a while back (1980 Topps super). PSA still grades these though...

  • I found it odd reasoning as well. If that's the problem then that would pretty much eliminate any 5x7 card from being graded by them

Really nice card! I wonder if they would grade the 2001 Toys R Us Diamond Skills card?

It never ceases to amaze me the wealth of knowledge on this board! I never even knew that a '92 set existed!

I have an '86 and '87 set, and I thought they only made these through '91

the '92 set of Super Size DK cards were not made available to the collecting public, thus the rarity
