July Group Sub results with scans

First off, a big thank you to Bryan for letting me jump on his group sub and for lending everyone his eagle eyes. I had recently sent in a lot of my gradable raw cards in a couple of other group subs so I didn't have a lot of cards ready to sub in July. I decided to grab some stuff that I had sitting around for a while and here are the results. Nothing too high dollar, I think the most valuable card may be around $30-40 or so, but it was good to get these cards subbed and I am happy with the results. Most of these will end up in the PC. I have been pretty successful on my own in prior subs but I definitely learned a lot from Brian based on the cards that I sent to him that didn't end up going into the sub thanks to his preview service. Anyway, here are the results and the scans. Thanks for looking.

These are all cards from my teenage years back in the early 90's. It is amazing how far Hull RC's have fallen in price. I remember when his cards were on fire at card shows back in the day. These are now the only two graded hockey RC's I own. I will probably try to get a few more RC's of guys I remember following back in the day (Lemieux, Roy, Gretzky). I'm not sure why I was a fan of Yzerman's as I grew up in CA and never really saw him play much. I always liked him and I still think that his RC is one of the best looking hockey cards from the 80's. They're not worth a ton these days, but I am happy to have them as part of my collection. Montana was my favorite player growing up, so I am happy to get my own self-subbed 9 of his second year card. It will go nicely with his PSA 9 RC. I was hoping for a 9 on the LT but I figured the print defects and centering would limit the card to an 8.

The Elway is another card from the childhood collection. I was hoping for a 9 but figured an 8 was the more probable result. This will go in the PC for now. I may decide to sell it if I ever upgrade to a higher grade. I like the look of the Leaf Luck card. I was happy to get Gem on all three cards. One will go in the Luck RC PSA 10 PC and the other two will go on the selling block.

I subbed most of my best 1961 Fleer BK cards a while ago. This was one of the stragglers that I never subbed because my goal was to do the set in 7 or better and I didn't think this one would get to a 7. I decided to finally sub it figuring it would sell for more as a PSA 6 than as a raw card. The Sampson is one of the few left over 1986 Fleer raw cards I had left. I sold most of my raw cards after I had decided to start my PSA 9 set. I already have a Sampson in 9 so this 8 will be on the block soon as well. Splash Brothers! My son loves basketball and the Warriors have been my favorite team since the Mullin days. He has been spoiled with all the championships our favorite teams have been winning (Giants and Warriors). Curry is his favorite player, so I am stoked to get one of his RC's in 10. I have started a small collection for my son of Steph Curry cards that I will hopefully add to over time. Klay Thompson cards are definitely more affordable than Curry's.

I have had amazing success grading the Brilliance set. I have subbed a bunch of Anthony Davis Brilliance cards and gotten mostly 10's with some 9's sprinkled in. They are relatively easy cards to see defects on so it makes it easy to decide which ones make the cut for subbing. Not sure what I will do with the Klay cards. I don't know if I have room for another player collection, but it is a shame to just have 3 PSA 10's sitting around.

How could anyone not be a fan of Yzerman? The guy is a phenomenal player in all aspects of the game and a class act on and off the ice.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. I am still a fan of his and respect his on ice accomplishments and everything I've heard of his off ice class. My only point was that growing up in a geographical location where his team received no coverage and having never even seen him play a game on television it was an unusual circumstance for me to have collected his RC or Brett Hull's RC. I was happy to dig out his card and I actually hope to get his OPC in high grade someday. His cards seem very undervalued relative to his career success and popularity. Sort of reminds me of Stan Musial in that way.

Lots of great stuff, Steve! I think my favorites are the Luck cards, those are cool. I think you're right about the Yzerman being a classic card. In general, I'm a huge fan of the 1984 hockey set. I'm a huge Ray Bourque fan and I think my favorite hockey cards in my small collection are my 2 raw 84 OPC Bourques. Not a rookie, but my favorite player in my favorite set.

    Bummer about the Rice.

Good stuff Steve. I'm your huckleberry on one of the extra Luck's.

Here are some of mine. Didn't want to scan duplicates. I'm hooked on early amateur hockey.

Dan--Yes, I really love that Yzerman card. Like I said, it is probably my favorite looking hockey card. I also love the design too. Sort of reminds me a little of 1983 Topps BB.

    Jim--PM sent.

Eric--Thanks for sharing scans of your sub. That is a lot of 10's. Congrats on some nice looking cards. Always cool to see what others collect on here.

StamkosFan - love the OHL and WHL cards. It's nice to see another person collecting the CHL.

I wasn't aware Miley Cyrus played hockey. Good for her!

Nice job on your sub. I think I recently subbed a 10 of that same Luck card. Is that Wilson variation a rare one?

That is a nice score for you then. I don't collect Wilson, but I collect Luck. I believe he had 4 variations in Topps. One was the very common base, the second was a relatively common variation and the third and fourth were very rare. It's hard to keep track of it all. Congrats on your gem.
