Selling/Shipping costs on COMC

Have a quick question for a COMC rookie. I'm putting together my first batch of cards to sell on COMC, and I'm trying to figure out exactly how the shipping fees are built into the sales price. It seems that the buyer pays $0.25/card for shipping. Is that $0.25/card built into the sales price? For example, if a card sells for $0.50, will I end up with $0.25 in my account (in which case the sale will have been a wash, since that's how much I have to pay to list the card)? Or do I get the entire sales price, and the buyer has to pay COMC the extra $0.25 on top?

I ask this because I see a ton of cards listed for less than $0.50, which doesn't make sense if you're losing the $0.25 listing fee and the $0.25 shipping fee.

Thanks!

If you list a card at $0.50 on COMC, it will show up to buyers as listed at $0.75. They've had listing fees for sellers as low as $0.10 in the past or someone has sold their entire inventory to someone else who just wants to blow it out on the cards listed for less than $0.50.

ETA: I also believe they give free listings to charitable organizations.

Thanks LC. So I guess the bottom line is that if the current lowest sale price on a card is $0.50 or less, I should not send my copy of that card to COMC because I'll never make money on it. This is because if I price it higher to make a few cents, my copy will never sell. And if I price it lower to be competitive, I will lose money. That sound right?

Exactly, I don't send in anything already listed at $0.50 or less. It also is good to be aware of how much more you can get for some cards on COMC vs. eBay. Many player collectors don't want to waste money on shipping picking up singles from a bunch of different people on eBay and will pay a premium to get everything in one shipment for $3.

As a buyer, I love the COMC format. Love being able to zoom in on every card and combine shipping from all buyers fir that $3.

Even if you sell at a loss, you can make it up on volume on COMC.

Thanks all for the valuable input. One last question. Say that I buy a card for $0.50 total ($0.25 to the seller and $0.25 for shipping), and keep it in my COMC account rather than shipping it to myself. I then sell the card to someone else on COMC for $0.50 total ($0.25 to me and $0.25 for shipping). I have now lost $0.25 on the card even though it sold for the same amount both times, because I paid $0.50 for it and only got $0.25 when it sold. And COMC has now made $0.25 in "shipping" when I first bought it, even though the card never shipped when I owned it. Is that correct?

If so, it seems like COMC benefits substantially when people keep the cards on-site when they buy and sell, because each time they make $0.25 on shipping that never happens, and it never gets refunded.

(Obviously I know this is all part of the business plan, but I just want to make sure I know exactly how it works before I start sending cards in.)

    Thanks!

I've been looking at COMC myself. It seems like a good place to sell low dollar cards that take a long time to sell. My first batch I'm sending it will be numbered refractors and inserts.

    Everything you've stated is correct.

I believe in this instance, if you don't want to ship offsite, that you would want to change your settings so that you are buying in Advanced Reseller Mode. You would not be charged the initial .25 cents built in shipping charge on your purchase (you would get the card for .25). This is the setting that the "flippers" use for buying and selling on the site. Check out the Blowout Forums in the COMC section for tons of discussions on how this works.

that's right if you want to buy the card and leave it on there to re-sell you just but it without the .25 built in. there is a setting you check off and it will show the cards without the handling fee built in. then if you want to receive the card in a shipment they will just add the .25 before they ship it to you.

Interesting to see the new COMC sales cross-listing on ebay now, just like they had w/ Amazon in the past. I don't have any items on there and haven't used them before, but am curious to hear from those who do about if this new concept has any noticeable impact. Only 3 feedbacks so far, but I'm sure that quantity will skyrocket soon.

Don't forget to factor in the cash out fee. If you want cash, rather than purchasing more cards from the site, it will cost you 20% of your cash.
