What rookie card would you buy for $250?

Most of us only dream of being in a world where we can spend $20K on our hobby. Spending $250 on a card is much closer to my wheel house. If you had an extra $250, to buy a rookie, what would you buy? (Or maybe you already own it, that works too).
Personally, I'd be tempted to go for a gem mint UD Griffey. But even that might be too far out of range now (haven't looked up it's value in awhile).

While not a direct answer to your question, it may provide some ideas on working with a list, a budget and a loose plan.
What's a grand getcha
ETA: not sure the link is working. I know how to post pics but not links.
<< <i>Here's a thread I started back in early 2014, where I charted my RC chase in 1000 increments.

1980 Topps Rickey Henderson PSA 8
1981 Topps Joe Montana PSA 8
1986 Topps Jerry Rice PSA 8
And with the change, I'd take a friend to In-N-Out Burger and order lunch for two.
1980 Topps PSA 7 Bird / Johnson
1986 Fleer PSA 9 Barkley
My #2 Ranked Michael Jordan PSA Basic Set
I used to spend a lot of my time in CA. Gees I miss that place.
Every time I went I had orders for a new t shirt for people.
Do they still have them???
Cardbender has a very good point. Vintage RC HOF have skyrocketed but Jurgy hasn't
He is well worth the $300
In general for an investment I would pick a guy who is not already well known and his cards are high.
Trout is an example of this There are a ton of his cards and by the time he (if he does) enter the hof there will be 1000's of PSA 10's available
and most everyone will already have his card and not be willing to pay top dollar.
What does a Max Sherzer RC go for?
1948-76 Topps FB Sets
FB & BB HOF Player sets
1948-1993 NY Yankee Team Sets

Dude! I had In-N-Out when I went to Cali back in late September to watch a Raiders game. Really really good!
btw, huge Raider fan in NC here!
This is a tough question.
If this is a hobby question and not investment - then who do "you" like?
A nice Griffey 9, along with Ripken, Ryno etc.
A nice looking PSA 4 Nolan Ryan rc.
Swish I had already followed your advice and this came in mail today. Happy to finally own a Ryan RC.

Awesome! Anytime you can get one of the iconic cards in our hobby, do it! I got mine a few years ago and it has changed my collecting focus to go after more of those vintage hof rookies.
