Anyone else tired of "high end" or "very high end" etc.?

I'm sorry but it is driving my crazy...especially when strong sellers put that out there when the card shouldn't even have the grade. Just saw a new 1960 Mantle listed that is a PSA 8 for 2400 bucks...Very High End??? Come on...that card is almost OC. Just getting old..even the PWCC designation is stupid in my opinion. Sorry to be a grump, but what's high end to me is clearly not high end to most "high end" marketers..that's all.

Agreed...I saw that listing as well. That guy normally does have what is considered "high end" Mantle cards for the grade. That psa 60T is as far from high end for the grade as it gets though. I believe a card that is high end for the grade will sell itself...no need for all the fancy designations.

They didn't have to use windex ... they found the card in their grandfather's attic after he died, where it probably was put right after the pack was opened 55 years ago!!!! lol

You're not alone in feeling that way. Such a waste of everyones time.

"Centered" or "Well-Centered" does it for me. There should be some minimum that they have to hit, say 60/40 at minimum but more 55/45.

In fact, the very seller you're talking about, check out his '63 "well centered high end" Mantle psa 8. Actually, save your time. Ridiculous.

Agree on that one. If you look at every one of Bruce's listings they are all "centered" or "high end" - to me if everything is that way it makes people wonder. Kind of like going to a restaurant and you ask the waitress what is good and she says everything. Tell me the meatloaf stinks or something. If it is any consolation I will give your 58 Mantle 8.5 a "KC certified high end sticker!" image
  • My estimate is that about one out of every four vintage cards on EBay with "CENTERED" in the title actually is well-centered.

I did have a filet last night that was way high end but for the price, right on the money...KC, I'll take your designation!!! Haha, that's great. Mike needs a few KC designations as well!!!

All of that high end b.s. drives me friggin nuts. And you know what? I've never bid a dime more on any card because it was described as "high end."
  • Yes sellers like to embellish their cards.

"High end" is the new "undergraded!".

I always get a chuckle when I see "undergraded" and then I look at the sellers other items and they are all "undergraded". I get tempted to send them a message asking if they have any "overgraded" cards but there are too many wackos out there.

I'm okay with it as long as the card is also called "rare" in the title.

I certainly hear your argument and makes complete sense. However, PWCC had about 7,500 items in their last auction. Maybe a few had a high-end certificate (3-5?). Correct me if I'm wrong, but PWCC is certainly not abusing the language, IMO.

Some of these sellers suggest "high-end" for 3,500 of their 7,500 consignments. Big difference.

Sdub, To be clear, notthrowing Brent at PWCC under the bus at all...I just don't think certified high end is necessary and it doesn't make me want to bid higher on a card. Really though, my complaint and frustration has more to do with the sellers that just put these type of buzz words out there regardless of a true assessment.

    1. "From Vending" - I thought vending was on the bottom of the pile?

    2. "Edges so sharp you can shave with 'em" - shaving cream and cardboard don't mix.

    3. "Dripping with color" - hasn't the ink dried yet?

    4. "Cards so clean you can eat of 'em" - I prefer tortilla chips.

    5. "L@@K!" - no thanks.

    6. 8+++++++ - really?

Oh, I know that Mantle. Its been on the market forever and I think he is tired of the cards questionables. Otherwise, it would have sold some time ago.

He may actually get what he's been asking, if not more. Because, 1. its PWCC and 2. someones gonna miss whats wrong with it. Im surprised it got by and received the high end certificate. Im probably not bidding. Def not bidding.

Great idea with the Jack (or Makers) and football.

edited....to add, turns out the moneyline added a little fun to the game
