You snooze you lose.
But on the flip side I've messaged sellers with BIN-only auctions (no Make An Offer feature) and gotten some to lower their BIN price before pulling the trigger.

Actually, I pay no attention to the watchers. Most of the time it is just someone who wants to see what an item winds up selling for as opposed to anything close to buying it. Anyone who tries to do this can only do so with a few items, otherwise they are glued to eBay. Try keeping track of this with 600+ items.
I was considering doing BIN on a cool couple hundred dollars error coin and raise the price 10 bucks every day
Too busy right now vacationing ......
<< <i>AMPEX fluxs by the hour it seems.
Precious Metals dealers have the BIN price tied to the spot market so they automatically adjust.
I already have my price raised by 10% so when I put it on sale, then it is at my correct price.

Here's a little story about raising prices. Back in the early 1970's I owned a hardware store in Castle Rock,
CO and one Christmas I decided to give six customers one heck of a deal. I ordered 6 sets of very nice
walkie-talkies and put them on my checkout counter at $19.99 a pair. Had them there for a month
and did not sell one set. Now, we are in deer hunting and elk hunting country and these sets had ear
buds and leather belt pouches and all the bells and whistles.
So, on the week of Christmas I put them up to their retail at $99 a pair and sold out in two days.
Evidently they were worth the Benjamin but not worth a Jackson.

Couldnt agree more!
Also APMEX uses a computer program to adjust their prices with spot, so as to keep their hedges and spreads accurate.
I see more watchers I lower the price

As a potential buyer, I avoid putting eBay lots in my watch list for not only the issue you've cited, but also to not let other potential buyers know that someone else is watching. Just bookmark the listing URL in your browser favorites, and maintain radio silence. Even so, you state you were ready to buy the coin with B.I.N., so why did you go "out for lunch" ?

Some coins I watch I will bid on. I have bought coins BIN I watched. Other coins I watch to c how they do vs CW and CDN. Just for informative purposes.

First time I ever saw Castle Rock was in July of 1976. Barely a wide spot on old U.S.85. Gotta be over 50,000 people now and they are shooting for 100,000 in the foreseeable future!

Uhhhh, No.
Since a "watcher" isn't necessarily a "buyer" and could very well be someone with a similar coin for sale.
I expect that the seller simply changed his/her mind on the BIN Price for the coin.
The name is LEE!
They like the coin.
They want the coin.
They have no intention of buying the coin.
The seller will relist it, and they will rewatch it.
But they know the seller will finally realize that no one on eBay will pay what they are asking for it.
Until one day the seller gives up and lists it at 99c with no reserve. Only THEN the watchers will bid.
They know they can buy it for pennies on the dollar and just wait and watch for the seller to give in and relist it as an auction.
I try and sell a few coins every once in a while with BIN or Best Offer, but have never raised the price based upon watchers of the item.

This pretty much sounds about right...
In the old days people would watch and go after it in the last minutes, that doesn't happen anymore.
It's as if the rule of eBay has become to not pay anymore than 20%-30% below comparable prices for the same coin that sells elsewhere.
In the past I've sold $30k in coins in some months. Now I'm averaging $2.2k, and I'm not a dealer, I just use it to sell off things that I no longer collect and duplicates.
It's basically become a venue for ripping deals...almost the last place you can still do that
<< <i>Most watchers are tire kickers. I'm convinced they have a similar coin and just want to see where yours goes so they price theirs to sell.

<< <i>Ive raise the price after declining a BS low ball offer, telling the "buyer" that if im going to sell it for 1/3rd my asking price, I may as well double the price first, little does he know hes already been blocked and wont be buying the coin at any price. >>
I never set OBO to automatically decline an offer.
If it is reasonable, I accept it.
If it is in range, I counter offer.
If it is a joke, I counter offer with $1 off the BIN price.
I would definitely have made a best offer 10% less than the new BIN, if I wanted it. And maybe a note that said, "Pretty please ", with a smiley face attached.

does that work ? if you want the coin why not take it at full price ? the seller is already paying 25% to ebay and paypal in fees
as a buyer if I want to save a few bucks I will offer to help save the seller a few bucks, ie pay with a money order, buy it without a return option, etc, as a seller, I frown on someone wanting me to give up a few bucks when they wont give up anything perhaps im in the minority, or perhaps I feel that negotiation should be more than a one way street

Or so you think. It isn't uncommon for some eBayers to have two or more accounts (e.g. a buy and a sell account).

I don't like sellers that play games. Unless the coin was irreplaceable, I would walk and wouldn't buy it at any price.
