With the passing of Yogi, does Whitey become the greatest ex living Yankee?

If not, who?
Good for you.

  • All I know is if they ever made a Mount Rushmore for these guys, it would extend into Minnesota.

For players who spent the majority of their career, or all of it, with the Yankees I'd say he's on the short list if not #1. Argument could be made for #1 IMO. As far as greatest ex living Yankees, including those who spent a few years with the Yanks but carved out the meat of their career elsewhere or made their fame elsewhere before hitting the Bronx, then I can't say he is.

    Definitely Jeter over Whitey Ford.

    I would take Ford.
  • It will take a few years, but as the position of closer continues to dominate the current baseball landscape, the name Mariano Rivera will gain a lot of momentum. The Yankees will never have a guy like that on their team ever again.

Whitey is not ex-living yet. image

I'd have to go Jeter, Whitey and Reggie.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I'd probably rank it like this:

    1) Whitey Ford
    2) Bernie Williams
    3) Derek Jeter

Has to be Jeter, but Ford is close.
