beware of ebay scam where package missing one or more items

Not sure if this has come up before, but if purchasing multiple items on ebay, if seller decides to leave out any as long as they have tracking you lose. This just happened where most expensive card was left out of package. Opened case, waited the requisite days with no contact from seller, escalated and within minutes lost the case based on tracking information. Seller ID is tntnorthnj, normally I wouldn't post this, but the fact seller had no communication with me makes me think not the first time this tactic used.

That's odd, I purchased a lot of items across about 10 orders from that seller last quarter when they had a run of rare Larkin cards spread out over a couple months. No issues with any of them, so never had to send any communication.

I learned from speaking to ebay to not open missing item, instead open not as described and then use missing parts or something to that affect. Also, seller has over 400 negatives in last 12 months, many for this type of scenario.

Amazing eBay lets these people get away with this kind of stuff. What is the card? Maybe we can keep an eye out for it.

That's good to know. On 67K+ feedback in the past 12 months, that's only a 0.6% defect rate (0.8% if counting Neutrals), well within eBay standards, but all the feedback for no communication is disturbing.

Sometimes they really make you cross your t's and dot i's otherwise you can lose a case even if your in the right. PayPal seems way more helpful than eBay if there is a problem. Was the value over $750 by chance?

Wasn't a graded card, but a tough Gretzky Insert. 1997 Pinnacle Epix Green Game - Auction ID, 371428775364. I was happy to win it at $34 as rarely see them come up. Ebay actually was helpful after I called I think it will be resolved with me getting refund.
Patrick, met Mike Bossy earlier this month at a card show and got 4 of the 1981 Stickers signed, was good experience - I was surprised how many people turned up for him in Massachusetts, but lots of old Islanders fans.

Take a look. Still got some work to do, but the set is looking good.

  • Pay with a credit card - 2nd line of defense solves the problem in the future.
  • So eBay basically said you opened the wrong type of case? Are they allowing you to refile an "item not as described" now?

    +1

I always sweep my Paypal balance if necessary so I can pay via credit card for this very reason (and reward points!).

That's really disappointing tntnorthnj didn't even respond to you. Like Kyle, I've done a lot of business with that seller with no issues... sounds like a good thing there hasn't been, otherwise I might have gotten the silent treatment as well. Glad to hear a call to eBay seems to have resolved the issue.

By the way, are you working on the entire 1997 Pinnacle Epix set? If so, and it's anything like its football counterpart, that set is a B-E-A-S-T! I've been working on my set for over 2 years and there are some cards I've not seen offered up even once on eBay, COMC, or elsewhere.

    Snorto~
