First Spouse coins

Ok so i've been doing a little buying here and there and i recently bought a Jackie Kennedy coin for my mother. I like the fact that they are 24k but it doesn't seem like there is a real demand for them. I've seen some sights and ebay that you can buy the earlier one (i.e. '07's) for close to spot. Does anyone collect these. Good investment??

Close to spot is the best way to buy this series as the mintages are nearing 3 digits.

Treat them like common gold eagles, or less, and you may avoid getting burned.

    They're prettier than their counterparts.

Give it time and F.S. Gold will become as popular as the Franlin Mint thingies ever were.

If any of them have a future, it's likely to be the four-design "Liberty" series for presidents who were unmarried while in office (Jefferson, Jackson, Van Buren and Buchannan), along with the ultra-low-mintage 2014 issues (Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, Eleanor Roosevelt).

Also, the proofs are likely to outperform the "uncirculated" issues despite having somewhat higher mintages. Most of the actual collector demand is for proofs because they are more attractive (or less unattractive) to look at.

I would think that these will have a premium someday. Just not anytime soon. I agree that they are just a bullion item and should be treated as such

When gold goes up and stirs excitement again (whenever that might be), I expect the numismatic factors (mintages, individual visual appeal) will then add premium. Not now, though.

If you are familiar with the American Arts Medals of 1980-1984, there's a chance that the Gold Spouses will follow in their footsteps...

...except that, the Gold Spouses are U.S. coinage and also have very low mintages. It's almost impossible to know what will happen in the future as to their collectability, especially when the Mint pumps out so many varieties and different issues.

Suffice it to say that the market takes care of itself rather well - when there is a market surplus, some coins go down a rathole - never to be seen again. Over time, I think it's likely that a collector base will rally around the series after it's too late to economically form a complete set.

It's hard to know when that might happen. After all, the Presidential Offspring Series and the Whitehouse Hairdresser Series may suck up enough collector capital to delay a significant liftoff for the Gold Spouses.

    I knew it would happen.

Is there any hope for a Presidential Snacks Series or a First Pets Series? I remember the Reagans liked
Jelly Bellies and Macadamia Nuts. The Johnsons had their Beagle Little Bird.

It might be interesting to see the other Pets and Snacks from the other First Families. Gold might be way too
expensive for such a Series. Could we get this in Silver or even Copper?
